Any idea what is going on here?

Was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this? I am relatively new to the hobby... I recently got 2 small colonies of sunflower (i think) zoas and placed them in my tank... the pic below is the "normal" looking ones...

this is the other guys... the "powder looking" white on the branches is sand from the dragon goby... the branches are "soft"

ok the first ones look a little like snake polyps. i could be wrong. How long have you had them? Have they opened up any? Or they could be some type of zoanthid that has been starved for light and that is the reason they are so long. And for the second picture it looks like a Cynarina which is a lps. how big is it? I looks like it might color up nicely as well. I am no expert but those are my best guesses. ben

I got the zoas about 5 or 6 weeks ago, they started out looking almost exactly alike (like the "normal" pictured)... 5 or 6 polyps on each piece... the branches started to grow on one about a week or 2 after I had them...

when i first noticed the lps (several months ago), it was about the size of a small button, it's now about nickle size, has very bright green colors...

am using a 90g tank right now with an outer orbit (2 - 150w mh, and 2 dual pac atinics). Just starting back up after Katrina (sigh...) lost all 3 reef tanks - all corals and 90% of my fish... i'll have to post a picture of the purple Tang and the mated pair of clowns I was actually able to save, their very tough guys :)

thx again, appreciate the help...

I'm thinking that is some sort of sponge in the second shot. I helped someone move her tank and we found black sponge like that and it stung her... It may be stinging the zoas and competing(?).
