Any idea what this is?

I noticed this red, fuzzy looking thing on a couple of my rocks about a month ago. It doesn't seem to have grown significantly since then, but I've been curious about what it is. It's very small, probably only about 1/8 to 1/4 inch. It's not apparent from the photo, but it's somewhat translucent. It hasn't moved at all since I first spotted it. Here's a blown up picture I took with my macro lens, which is actually a much better view than I have just looking at it:

The color is actually quite a bit more red than it looks in the picture, but I got tired of playing around with it in Photoshop. Here's a larger scale picure to give you an idea of perspective:

I have recently been thinking it may be some sort of soft coral that hitchiked in on the rock, but I don't think it's a zoo. The pictures are a little deceptive because of the angle they were taken, but it's pretty irregular shaped, more oval than circular.

do th polyps ever retract? if you blow water onto it see if they retract to see if there is a skeleton underneath.
