Any Ideas

I have 2 very nice rbta in by display and was wondering if any body had a way to make these guys split on me? Cause they are getting to big and are stinning my sps. I have heard that you can take a ruberband and put it around a patr of it, but am not sure and just want to get some feed back. Thanks for looking.

There was a guy awhile back who talked about how he got his anemonies to split. It pretty much involved feeding them heavily for about a week or so and then doing a 50% waterchange. The theory (and I've heard other accounts that seem to validate it) is that a healthy anemone will often times split if it's stressed.
I haven't heard the rubber band thing. People cutting anemone's in half seems to be the new thing. I have no idea how successful this practice is. I, personally, wouldn't go that route. The rubber band thing sounds a bit risky to me too.

Hi Charlie,

The possibility of stinging corals is exactly why I'm not a proponent of keeping mixed reef tanks, but doesn't getting the nems to split just make the problem worse over time?In answering your question I have read people doing such things as overfeeding, massive water changes and such, the only way I know it will happen is to frag the nem yourself, which then again only makes you problem worse IMHO

Hope this helps:)

I dont think that it would make it worse! They are to big so by splitting they would get cut in half to help out with the size ordeal. And i musy agree with you an the mixed reef, when i ste the tank up a few yrs back i got the anemone not knowing that they would grow to be so large! And it would help by splitting so i could sell the clone and tell the wife look the tank actully made some $! Thanks for the thread ill check it out.
