I do not know if you noticed but at the bottom of the page in the last paragraph there is a link to Page 2 which has more critters and at the bottom of Page 2 a link to Page 1 with even more critters.

Nope, it doesn't react to anything. Not that long ago it looked like a regular foraminiferan like the rest. Then one morning a few days ago I noticed that it looked like that. So I thought I'd keep an eye on it, and see if it develops into anything. I did touch it this morning, and all I can report is that it's hard.

Keep in touch, I would like to know how it develops, who knows may be is a weird Calcium Carbonate based algae (like the halimeda) or may be even a weird coral?

Look what it's doing today:

Maybe some sort of weird growing event? Sorry the pic isn't real sharp, it's the best my Nikon Coolpix can do on macro mode.

Looks like a graboid spawning. Maybe that is the way that it propagates?

From the previous pic I notices the white spread which now seems to be dissolving to give room to additional growth.
interesting and beautiful animal. Hope it keeps on growing and see what it turns out to be. It seems to be doing well

Ok, new pics fresh off the tripod:

I am quite sure that this is a propagation event of some sort. Notice around the foraminiferan that there appears to be new ones. The second pic was with a flash.

I can just hear the roar of the forum now, as I cruise through, "Hey, Isn't that Reeses? The one who documented the propagation of foraminiferans?" :lolspin: :lolspin: :lolspin:
