For most people a large tank is very deep, 6' wide, and tall tank... I have been thinking and would like to put a very long tank along a wall in a basement. Tank would span mostly 12 to 15 or maybe even 20 feet. Doesn't need to be more than 30" tall or deep. Would be very long and sleek looking I think. Has anyone done this before and are there any builds on here for it? Have found a few on a Google search but looking for more info on the challenges of this. I.e. Lighting and flow.
Any long systems? 12-15ft long?

There was a awesome 10' x 2' x 2' build on here, but I can't for the life of me find it. I think a closed loop is a must to get your flow, and yes the bill for the lights is gonna hurt, both in initial cost and running every month. This particular build was viewable from both sides, so the overflows were a challenge as well. I believe he ended up putting them in the ends. Overall a very clean a nice setup.
I remember that build. The guy had to weld two pieces of acrylic together to get the overall length he was looking for.

Around 15-20 years ago there was an article in one of the reefkeeping magazines at the time of an extremely long tank in a newly built house. The tank was like 20' long. If I recall it was poured concrete with class viewing panels. The panels were held in with metal (possibly stainless steel) framing. I was only a teenager at the time, just getting into the hobby and I've always wanted a tank like this. The swimming behavior of the fish alone would have been a sight to see. The owner was a fairly well know hobbyist at the time but I don't recall the guys name. He was one of the first to experiment with small atoll aquascaping as apposed to the reef wall approach that was prevalent at that time. The article showed the tank setup and running. He build the room similar to that of a greenhouse so the tank would mostly be lit by natural lighting with halides as supplements. It was a beautiful setup, a true dream tank but I have no idea what came of it.
