In my native fish collecting this year I was able to obtain 2 Mantis shrimp from the long Island sound this year from an oyster dredging company. DOes anyone know what species lives on Long Island??
Do you have photos? Mantis may be unusual up here, I do not know... but there was a manatee found by NJ and MA over the summer... I know that is unusual...

I thought it was nuts. I have been collecting in Brooklyn and Long Island for 25 years. I never collected Long Island Sound because the gulfstream tropicals never really got past the South shore before winter. When they gave me the bucket of buy catch I was shocked to see the mantis shrimp. They say they are native and have always been caught there. The shirmp are that natural gray color with small areas of yellow on the tail fin.
