Any of you guys running a DSB?

Got tubes?
Hi all!

I was just curious if anyone here was using a DSB? I'm thinking about it... if I can get it plumbed in, anyways... heh.

Just curious!

What do you mean by Plumbed in?
I was gonna ask the same thing. Im thinking he meant a rdsb(remote deep sand bed) which has to be plumbed in.

CRAP! I meant REMOTE DSBs! My bad! I know several people are running DSBs, I meant remote DSBs... heh.

Im always tired these days so i know how it is. I had just been looking into setting one up recently so i figured thats what you meant. If i ever get some free time im gonna try it out since i like a shallow sandbed in my main tank.

I'm thinking I'd rather have a shallow sandbed in my main tank as well. In my sump design, I've got like 12" for the refugium... I may do one in there. I'm not sure that I'm going to have enough room to put a bucket or something underneath my tank.

The good thing about a RDSB is that I can just take it out of the system if need be!

We'll see... I'm thinking I can stick one in somewhere.

Where theres a will, theres a way! :D

I haven't set one up. Don't have a tank right now. But I've done quite a bit of reading on them. Did you have specific questions or are you looking for a push to try it? I'd try it in a bucket just to make it easy to remove if you decide you don't want/need it after all. Rather in a sump compartment that'd have to be siphoned or vacuumed if you decide to remove it. Also remember it's not meant for the refugium. You don't want critters in there stirring the sand up and destroying the anaerobic zones. You want nothing but sand and enough water flow to keep detritus from settling in a RDSB.

Ahhh... I see... good points, Siffy. I will put it in a bucket, if I can find somewhere to put it under my stand. I'll be picking up the tank Sunday.

I've not done a ton of research yet, but it seems cool and I'd like to have just 2" or so in my tank.

In general, how is it plumbed? Can it just be used off of the return from the tank or does it need a power head or something?

*GRRRR!!!*

As soon as I get all of this school stuff done, I'll be ready to study some more. Not enough time right now, though. :)

Thanks!
