Any one use auto dosing on your nano tank??

I've a 18" cube - Red Sea Refeer Nano, a total water volume of 100L, heavily stocked with SPS. I'm now consider using dosing pump for my tank. However, due to lack of space, I'm encountering difficult about the placement.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or you can furnish me with your current practice...with pictures, if possible...!

Thanks and happy new year!!!

I use a Jebao 4 channel to dose ALK/CAL and top off water on a 10 gallon temp holding tank. Dialing in the dosage is the tough due to the small doses required but it can be made to work.

I'm not but plan on it. Without very reliable manual dosing, it would be difficult to maintain consistent long-term growth in such a small environment.

I use BRS 2 part with their auto dosers for calcium and alk controlled by my apex. I water change 5 gallons every week and run a skimmer. Only thing I run a test on is mag alk and calcium once every couple of weeks to make any adjustments to the doser if needed.

GHL Doser 2

I love it. I thought about the DOS, but the room it took up and only being two pumps, the GHL made more sense to me. It's not cheap, but worth every penny. There's a port for a temp probe and there's an expansion module that can be connected for an extra pH probe if desired? Level sensors, stirrers (all add-ons of course) and it tells you when you're getting low on fluid. It's highly accurate, which for smaller systems is the key. I can go on and on, but it's one of the pieces of gear you wished that you bought sooner.

The lack of a 3rd pump on the DOS is a big factor me as well. Do you dose ALK/CAL/MAG with yours?

I have an Apex which is why I considered the DOS...I just don't think it's going to make a great fit for me.

The GHL doser looks pretty cool However I'm curious about the setup? I ran an apex on my old tank and it had alot of features that I didn't end up using.

GHL is a stand alone doser, but I have mine powered off the apex in case of an accidental overdose of alk, a pH alarm will shut the unit off. I dose all 3, alk, ca and mag (mg only once a week on average, w/c's cover most of the mg levels). I'm planning on buying the slave doser for daily water changes when I upgrade to a larger tank. Check out the GHL section on RC for info on constant w/c.

If possible, buy a side storage thing. I got one that sells for about $30. Sleek and modern looking. I turned it to the side and plan on adding a piece of wood to enclose the side open cubicals. But it looks really clean. Allowed me to get all my outlets and plugs out of the stand because it felt pretty cramped in there. My Reefer 170 is SPS dominant so I'll start auto dosing soon by mounting my dosers in the side stand.

Im going to use the 4th head on my kamouer as the ATO, just need to find a nice little container to store RO water in, lol

What brand of ALK/CAL do you use?

Not that you asked me, but....

I've used BRS 2 part, and am currently using ESV 2 part. I prefer ESV 2 part, because while it is twice the price, it's twice as concentrated, so I only have to change out the 2 part bottles half as often as the BRS 2 part. They both work out to pretty close in price for length of time of use.

If you are dosing small amounts for a small tank, it might be easier to use BRS since it's less concentrated. If you use a lot of 2 part, or don't want to change your bottles as often (or refill/rehydrate them), the ESV is the way to go. I imagine mineral and trace-element wise, they're probably pretty close.

Dialing in isnt that hard. You just need to keep testing and testing every other day for 2-3 weeks to know exactly how much your corals are.consuming.
Even if after you have dialed in you still need to test again and again at least a.few time a month to make your adjustment as corals grow you need to dose more. Or if corala die you need to cut back.

I have a 4 head ghl stand alone in the closet waiting. It was something I used on my 120 gallon and worked wonders as far as automation. Currently have a Red Sea max 130. 95% sps (frags and mini colonies right now) I use bulk 2part same as brs. Only 10 ml every other day. Once I get near 20 ml I will get the doser out of storage. I would rather add it over a 24 hour period when the consumption gets higher so as not to have too high a ph spike.
