OK ... I dont use DE anymore but I think using it from a pool supply is a crap shoot. This is from a while back but I read that there are different grades of DE. The reputable DE brands made for the aquarium industry are higher grade and also assured of no impurities that can harm the tanks inhabitants. My understanding is that there is the potential for contaminants being present in the pool grade DE. That doesnt mean that it is NOT safe. It may be perfectly safe. But it doesnt have to meet the same requirements so there is atleast the potential for a problem. There are also different grades in terms of quality of the powder itself for filtering purposes although this wouldnt be an issue in terms of impurities. Bottom line is that the aquarium types and (and the DE some use as food grade ... yes, some people feed the stuff to cats and dogs and some people eat it as well) have to pass more stingent requirements than the swimming pool grade. I think it may also be used in some filters for potable water and that grade would also have to pass more stringent requirements than the pool grade.
I havent used DE in years so this is all from memory. Do a google search on the different grades. Be safe. And just because a pool grade DE brand had been safe in the past for someones tank doesnt mean the same brand is safe for the next tank. The pool DE brand may be purchased from many different suppliers so it isnt necessarily the same exact DE from batch to batch.
Again, be safe first. Do a google search. I could be wrong, they could have changed the requirements over the years and the pool stuff may be ok these days. But make sure first.
Good luck.
