Any theories on why BTAs can lose their bubbles?

Like many people, my BTA no longer has the bubbles it did when it was at the store. While it seems there is no consensus as to why the bubbles can disappear, I'd be interested in hearing people's theories. Also curious to hear if people have had their BTAs suddenly bubble-up again, and if so, were there any known changes to the tank parameters.

i personally believe flow plays a big role as well as lighting. ive got two bta and one is in direct flow and never bubbles, the other is in indirect flow and is always bubbled.

Mine bubbles real fat after feeding and will stay that way for a couple days, then they get skinny tentacles again until the next feeding. Like clockwork every time.

Interesting. I had wondered if they may lose their bubbles if hungry or wanting more light (either one may lead to the tentacles stretching). The idea of stress is one I hadn't thought of. While there is no consensus, there has to be a cause...there are too many stories of BTAs having bubbles at the store, only to lose them when they come home.
