Any tip for pocci's?

Hi, pocillopora corals don't succeed in my tank. The coral can handle for 1 month but after that it starts losing tissue and bleaching. All others sps doing fine.

Any tip for these coral? more or less flow? light? feeding?

Stable parameters are key with all the more delicate SPS. especially alkalinity. What are your parameters

CA, Alk, Mg, Salinity ?

Hendry I'm wondering if poccis are a little more sensitive than other types of stony corals like acros and montis. All my sps are growing well but I have lost 2 pocci frags yet.

ca = 420
alk = used to be 10dkh, but my alk droped to 7 after I changed my salt.
mg = 1.150 :confused:
s = 1025

maybe alk fluctuation could be stressful for delicate pocci's?

I have had the same problem. stable params as well. (i use a Ca reactor) intersted in problem as well.

I've had much success with this coral, placement I have for lighting is med/high...more on the medium side..not a very high light demand coral. and medium to high flow. I rarely ever feed my corals...fish poop and cleaning the glass of algae is all they eat. parameters look fine...people will say to bump your Mg up to 1350 but mine is on the lower side with no repercusions. my Ca is 420-450 and dKh is 8. no phos/no3. a medium random flow is ideal for this coral. Here is my green/purple combo-->

t4zalews,

but your pocci and others SPS are almost brown, I think you have a lot of space to improve your colors

The drop in dKH that you report is suspect in my mind. I keep mine at 8 and hold there through dosing pumps. I also test for potassium and keep it around NSW at 380. I have found that the potassium levels greatly enhance colors and stability of the health of more delicate corals in my tank.

I find poccis to be the "canary in the coal mine" for salinity. You might want to recalibrate your refractometer to make sure your SG is correct. I notice that my poccis are the first to suffer if the SG is too high or too low.

yeah, definitely a very delicate sps coral. A good one to point if something is going wrong in the tank.

I have never had a problem with poccis. They grow to fast and like to multiply all over the tank. That's why I only have one in my current tank. They're kinda like the xenia of the sps world...:)

I'm not seeing a lot of brown in my tank

You're lucky they don't succeed!

Mine was quite successful and spawned in my 58 gallon and started growing everywhere.

I gave a grapefruit size colony away.

Do yourself a favor and skip them.
