my tanks new so im not sure if this is just the new tank brown algea bloom or what not. i added a sand sifting goby ( diamond back ) and he took care of all the algae on / in the sand mad props to that guy. but my overflow box ( inside ) is covered in brown hair algae and i cant reach in it well to clean it out. also its covering my macro algae plants... there any tips to really beat back the brown algae?

tank is 40 breeder with 30 sump with large display section. just added a DSB to it. is there a chemical i can add to help clean it up? or possibly a fish? i have a few snails ( 2 large turbos and about 5 ceriths . two of which decided to lay eggs and i have tons of baby snails covering my glass so im hoping they take care of alot of the algae problem )

anyways just wondering what other people have used to win this battle =)

You are going through a diatom bloom. Normal in new tanks. It will go away on its own. Continue to use RO/DI (if you aren't already) water and you'll be fine. ;)

Yea pretty normal for a newer tank,A little less light can help control it. Also Good water flow helps. And not useing tap water. Then add stock little by little and whatch your tank mature and enjoy :)

WHerever there is algae, there is phosphate in excess. Excess phosphate comes from tapwater [ro/di takes it out] and from flake and pellet food in particular, as opposed to frozen---though I'm sure it must have some. A potent skimmer helps.

i have a pretty decent skimmer i think. but i might pick up an oddessy hang on back skimmer ps75 or 160 to aid my tank. since i just upgraded my sump to a 30 gallon tank. have 70 gallons of water now. i am using both flake and pellet. but i have frozen i give as a treat every few days. would switching completly to frozen food help reduce some phosphate?

im currently not using ro/di water and my flows a little on the low side but im picking up a few modded MJs in the near future to aid with that as well, thanx for the tips.

I feed pellet only for one targeted fish, ideally. If they'll eat frozen, they get frozen.

My damsels , tang , coral beuty , sandsifting goby , dotty back , sally long foot crab , my star and i sure some falls in the rock cracks for the little dudes. I give pellets with garlic everyother day in the morning.Frozen everynight , skipping a night a week or so apart.
