I just bought a copperband butterfly two weeks ago and he has 3-4 white spots (Lymphocytis virus) on his rear fin. Besides improved water quality anything else i can try? Will he be a problem for other tank mates in my display?
If it is on the edge of the fin and you have to catch the fish out anyway, you can carefully trim it off with a pair of sterilized scissors. I would not bother catching the fish just to do this, however. Lympho usually gets better all on its own if the fish is healthy and in stress free conditions.
It can take a couple to a few weeks to go away. As a new introduction, your CBB already is stressed so give it time to settle in, start eating, and fight off the virus. The good news is that the virus seems to have no negative effect on the fish so long as it doesn't grow on the fish's mouth and interfere with eating.
