Any vertex owners in Tucson?

I've got the alpha 170. Great skimmer, quiet, build quality is top notch, and let me suggest dont oversize your skimmer too much with these. There ratings are spot on

I'm 220 total volume, I'm looking for a skimmer that I can still grow with up to say 300 total volume. I looked at the 170s and heard that can be a pain to tune. The quality of vertex seems like you get what you pay for. Im not opposed to spending for good stuff, my tunze 6105s are awesome for example. But I'm nervous about coughing up $900 on a skimmer. I'm looking at new vs used based on the cost of red dragon parts. My other option was a super reef octopus 3000.

Just further to this the problems with the alpha 170 have been corrected. Mine ran amazing right out of the gate. Also after hearing my buddies sro xp3000 I decided on the vertex. Noise was high on the list for me as its in my living room

I will say this.... its a saying in the tattoo world....

"Good tattooing isn't cheap, and cheap tattooing isn't good"

Reefing isn't cheap and good products cost money. I find the rational that works best for me is... If I decide to go bigger... can I still use this? How are teh reviews? Can I see it work in person? Also.... how reliable is it? And whats the maintenance... Cause last thing you wanna do is be cheap and buy something less expensive and than have it break and you buy the more expensive one after that. I have learned the hard way with that many times in my life and finally, lately, I am not doing it anymore!
