I have never tested if my refractrometer was calibrated properly. Right now it reads 1.024 and i would like to bring it up a bit higher. Just want to make sure i am getting accurate readings first.

If anyone got any and is going to the meeting, can you please bring some for me :) I would gladly pay you for it.

Thanks!

I've got a dropper of ultra pure water that came with my refrac if you want to calibrate to zero. I can bring to the meet. But I've heard that the best calibration is to use a known 1.025 solution to calibrate in the range you're interested in. I don't have any of that.

I have some that we used for a club that Chriss made up at vandy. If you have some at a level you can trust it is better to cal to that. I can not get into the reason I will leave that to our experts.

yeah -- water doesn't work to calibrate most refractos for sea-water. it calibrates them fine for NaCl, but not the mix of salts that are in our aquariums. You can use pinpoint calibration solution (which has some quality control issues a year or so ago), or there is a bunch of home brew calibration solution around the club that Chris Stowers made in a lab here at Vandy. It is 1.0264 on the nose.

Thanks everyone...

Wayne, could you bring that to the meeting, and i could just calibrate it there?... That way i dont have to take any from you :) That would be so helpful! oh ... and your pm is full ... been trying to pm you all day yesterday. LOL
