I see quite a few people lately selling 55 gal tanks, is anybody buying them? anybody have a 55gal that they are using as a DT? im curious becuase i also have a tank/stand that i thought about selling/tradding but i'v been seeing alot of other people selling them but have seen nobody buying them..

was just wondering..

I have a 55, but I will be upgrading to a 72 bow... Not much of a jump but the 72 bow looks nicer I think...

I might be interested.
What would you want to trade for?

Personally I like 55's because:

They make nice planted FW tanks as, IMO, the best looking plants (swords, lilies, etc.) grow tall and skinny.

I'm also thinking about putting a divider in the middle of a few 55's to try out as breeder tanks.
They have a small footprint for the water volume and could be stacked three high and still be accessible.

Oh yeah, and the big reason I like 55's... they can usually be found for dirt cheap because pet stores sell so many to beginning aquarists.
I've actually picked up several perfectly good 55's sitting by the side of the road and given them away to friends wanting to start a tank.

only prob with the tank is the tank is dark brown and the stand is black.. you can paint one or the other to match though.. id like in trade some corals or some equipment to help setup the 75 im doing.

Metal frame or wood cabinet stand?... and how did you end up with such a mismatched pair?
You must drive around on bulk pickup day too. ;)

I'll look thru the tubs in the garage and shed, but I doubt I have any extra equipment that would suit you.
Try to get some cash for it first (which you can use towards some needed, new or used equipment), and if you don't sell it by the time you're ready to stock we can work out a trade for some coral frags, LR, or LS.

I currently have a 29g and want to upgrade to a 55g. I have a broken one in the backyard that I was going to use for some corn snakes but now I'm considering fixing it up and using it as a reef tank instead.

I use a 55g as a QT for fish. The 4ft length gives tangs some swimming room, but the water volume isn't unmanageable.

they are different becuase i aquired them at seperate times for unbeatable prices. i was thinking of keeping it as a QT tank for later but id like to sell some stuff off to help buy equipment for the 75. but if i sell it ill have to get a QT later but that wouldnt be for a about 6 months. :/

Good meeting you and your family tonight, Chef.
It was Shawn (Sean?), right? I apologize if I got it wrong. I'm usually lousy with remembering names, especially when I meet a bunch of people like tonight.

Thanks for bringing the little 10g.
It'll be the first thing I practice on when my bits arrive.
Let me know how those frags do under your lighting.
Keep them both high up in your tank as close to your lights as possible.

Btw, I forgot to ask you again, is the stand for the 55 a metal frame or a wood cabinet?

yea its sean :). they are up pretty close right now, i'll keep an eye on em. the birdsnext is such a bright green under my light its insane. i love em both, iv also been wanting a monti cap for awhile so you just made my night :P.

also the 55 stand is wood.i can take some pictures later and post them possibly.
