Anybody else lose their tank this week ? :(

Went without power for about 36 hours while I was away from home and lost quite a bit. Unfortunately there was nobody with a key in the area to open the house and fire up the generator. One of the few positives was that I put a GFO / carbon reactor online last weekend so as soon as power came back on the carbon started cleaning the water.

Total loses included 10 fish from my main tank and one damsel from the front cube. Birdnests in both tanks are completely gone and I think I will wind up losing my dendros and neon sinulara / most of my trumpet corals. Ammonia levels are ugly and I'm already on my second water change for the day trying to bring them back down. In my main tank (135g) the only fish to survive was my hippo tang (and I have NO idea how he made it).

Lesson learned, if you travel for work make sure someone local has a key to open your house in the event of a long term power outage..........

Sorry to hear that man. I have seen a few people in Philly lose their tanks due to an extended power outage that some are still experiencing. I don't know where honeybrook is, but if you'r ever around White Haven (18661) stop in and I'll hook you up with some frags to get restarted.

That's rough. If you ever find yourself in the sinking spring area (19609) I have plenty of birds nest and some other frags to get you back into it.

Right now I'm dealing with 2" of water in front of my sump in the sump room because the ground is so frozen the drain no longer works and my RO got stuck "ON" the other day. So I have a floor full of RO/DI, but thankfully that has no affect on my tank other than having to wade to my frags.

I'm sure there are lots of losses in the area. I was lucky and never lost power. It really does have me thinking about getting a generator.

If you come up to see Fizz, I'm close by, Temple 19560, and have some trumpet coral I can give you some starts from.

Thank you to everybody, I appreciate it. I'm doing almost continuous water changes this week and trying to save what corals I can. I had a few moments of decision to take the tank down or not and realized that I enjoy the hobby too much to let a temporary setback like this keep me down.

I'm going to take this as a chance to get my hair algae and aptasia issues under control and then start restocking.

Any value to leaving the dead coral skeletons in the tank ?. I'm watching a few trumpets to see if they come back but for the stuff that is obviously dead will the skeletons break down and help any ?

IMO dead coral is still live rock...I have some old pieces in my sump. I've also used some dead coral to mount new frags too. :)
