the vinegar trick is you put a handful of sand in a cup of vinegar, if it starts bubbling, there's some argonite in it, if it disappears by the next day it's completely argonite, similar to southdown.

So you add some base rock, then some Fiji, Tonga, etc on top? I can see where it would save you money. You usually don't get to see the stuff on the bottom or in back.
