Anybody from (or near) East Coast Aquatics coming to the swap?

I'd like to try some "Rod's Food" in my tank, but it is frozen and I hate to pay for frozen shipment via mail even from MarineDepot.

Rod's food website (http://www.rodsfood.com) says that East Coast Aquatics carries some of their products as well as some places in NJ and DE.

ECA is near Philly.

If anybody could pick some up for me I'd really appreciate it. I'd offer frags for delivery but I really don't have anything frag-ready besides some shrooms so a big "thank you" will have to be sufficient. :) (unless you want shrooms).

Obviously I'd pay for the product, I just need somebody to transport it.

Thanks.

how much does this stuff typically cost? I sing with an opera company in philly so i'm up there every monday. If it's expensive i won't be able to do it till after i got the money though

Most places seem to run about $20 per 6oz plate. If you're willing to pick it up I can call ECA and see if he'll take some phone orders. If he does we can all call in and pay with a credit card and one day you can go pick it up and toss it in your freezer until the swap.

I don't know if he'll do it..but I can ask. :) ...or you can if you're in there all the time! ..but I don't mind the leg work.

Im in as well if you guys decide to place an order. I wanted to try the coral food.

..you know that the coral food is designed for coral only tanks, right? The regural stuff has coral food in it, but if you have no fish or inverts than the coral food is the right choice....provided he even carries all the varieties. Not too many people have a need for the coral only formula.

I've never been to the store but it looks easy to find. Ask him about paying with credit cards and holding it for local pick up. I go every monday to the philly area, if you guys get this sorted by this coming monday i can bring it all to the swap.

ecc is i nice store,i got some nice acans there, and they had some nice chalices to. it's right off the prospect park exit of 95.and there haveing a big 5 year anniversary sale this weekend and a frag swap/yard sale on sat.

I know... i have one small fish. I want something to hit my sps with rather than the large items i feed my fish.

I will call ECA later today to see what they'll do for us. I tried just now but didn't get an answer, probably too early in the morning. :)

Well, crap.

After all this it turns out they don't carry it anymore. They "prefer 5 star reef bar" now so that's what they carry although they don't have any of THAT in stock either! :)

It took a while but I found the web site:
http://www.5starreefbar.com/
..I'm guessing it's owned by one of the ECA staff or long time customer. It's too unproven for me so that's out.

Anyway, I tried to see what MarineDepot would charge me shipping but I can't seem to select the item right now so who knows what's up with that. The regular stuff is on sale right now so we'll see...if the shipping isn't too ourtrageous I'll order some and bring it to the swap to sell. Dan...I'm up to almost $200 for your frags anyway so I'm not worried about you. :)

I'll let you know what I'd be asking for the blocks once I get a grip on shipping.

...I also sent an email to the owners of Rod's Food and told them about us (NCPARS), my site, and the upcoming swap. We'll see if that goes anywhere.

Invest $100 and buy all the ingredients and make it yourself, its very messy but you wil save a lot of money, last batch I made ended up with 10+ ziplock bags, and I know exactly what is on the food! get together with some close by and cost goes down dramatically!
use a blender for the fish/oysers/scallops etc... and a food processor for chopping the algae, add the mysys/brine as they come, just defrost first

here is the recipe that was given to me... I dont use all the ingredients and dont buy the large quantities shown below, that is a lot of food!

OK, Here is the recipe list. I spec'd everything out with purchases from Drs. Please feel free to make suggestions for additions/subtractions to the recipe.

I considered making my own but a few things held me back...

1. The large investent that then sits in the freezer for a year before I use it all and gets freezer burn.
2. Buying bottles of stuff I'd only use a little of.
3. Rod's has rotifers, baby brine and other stuff that I'd have to grow.

Looks like The Hidden Reef carries it now. I haven't been there in a few years so I don't know for sure. I guess we're gonig to have to hold off unless somebody on here goes there.

Rods said www.premiumaquatics.com offers the best price for shipping based on my location and I checked it out but couldn't get a real shipping $ amount besides $10 to box up to 10 (without filling out forms)..but I don't think that included shipping, just packing.

I guess I'll have to wait for now.

I went through checkout and the shipping only (not counting the box charge) ~$14 for UPS ground or ~$33 for 2nd day air. Not sure if ground is feasible, but it's an option on the checkout page.

i went up to east coast yesterday just for the heck of it. decent store, fish were average, coral tanks were very clean and healthy & good prices. I didn't really see any frozen selection to speak of though.
I'll go visit hidden reef next week.

Hidden Reef was the store that got flooded a few years back from a neighboring fire right?

That was a great store back then, I can only imagine what they did with the insurance money. :)

oh i know where the new store is. I've been there, it's much bigger than the old one. their fish room is about twice the size of something fishy
