Anybody gotten business cards printed before?

:) Hopefully a fairly simple question for my fellow photographer types out there. Who here has gotten business cards printed up before, and if so where? Reason I ask is a while ago I was looking to get some printed up but I ended up getting side tracked and got put off and I never have gotten around to putting together and getting some printed up. Somebody this morning after one of my threads reminded me that I should get some cards printed up to pass out when I get asked or when I'm doing public events. So first things first I need to find somewhere to print them up first! ;) I live in a small town so I ain't going to find these type of services locally, so I'm looking online.

Anyone have good suggestions? :) I already looked at Mpix and while I think they'd do great went to download their card making software and its a whopping 170MB, I'm on dial-up, it'd take me a week and a half to download a file size that big! So they're pretty much out at the moment.

I'm not looking for anything overly complicated I don't think but the design I do have in my head includes a full-bleed color image on the front printed on some type of fairly thick glossy paper :).

lol - I used MPIX and liked the service.

You might try Vistaprint.com I've used them for rubber stamps but they have a PSD template that you can download. You do your artwork and then send it back to them. It might be a better fit.

:D I'm going to have to go check them out! I'm open to any suggestions, if nothing else just to see what all services are out there.

Mpix was the first place I hit, and I'd love to go with them as I also need to get some prints made up and would like to try them out for those as well....unfortunately I don't really have much access to a broadband connection :(. I know somebody I could probably bribe to download it to a disk and send it to me but in the meantime I'll look around other places too just to see what is out there :D

:) Just a small additional note for anybody reading - I'd also like my design to include printing on both sides. So will need somewhere that does double sided printing.

I get stuff printed all the time as part of my job...

I recommend Jaysen or Jen at Design Majik here in florida. Good prices and they'll ship around the world, and do design if need be.

They are a gang-run house, so they offer cheap prices, but you have to run a lot of cards. Their min run is 5000 cards, but it's only $100 for 2 sided glossy. Tell him Ben recommended you, he'll probably throw in a UV coating for free.

:D Thank you! I'll have to go look, been scouting out places this afternoon. Found one place that was sort of interesting so put in a request for some free samples from them that should arrive this coming week.

I'll definitely go look at the link though! :D

My family and I have always used Fedex Kinkos (sp?) and have had great service and they have always been on time.

For my business card I design them myself and have them printed at Copymax which is inside almost all officemax stores. Very good rates and a great turn around time.

:) Thought I'd make a follow up post for anybody interested.

I finally got my first order of business cards delivered yesterday - I decided to go with a different company I'd heard a lot of good things about from other photogs - http://www.overnightprints.com/ AMAZING, literally, I am flat out AMAZED at the kind of job they did! I did ask for a package of free samples from them first just to see what kind of job they actually do do. I believe they cheapen their free samples though because what I got yesterday IMO is 10x's the quality I saw from the samples. Their samples are quite good mind you - what I got yesterday is just that much better.

:) I was looking for something as close to a credit card type of feel as possible and I believe got just about as close as you're going to find anywhere. Paper is nice and thick (might even be a little heavier than some CC), colors and printing are great, and they have that very nice heavy plasticy UV coating on them just like every CC does. I'm really impressed and it usually takes a lot to impress me ;). They're almost good enough hate to just give them away!

send me a card!

:D Shoot me a PM with your address if you really want one. Its nothing too major - basically ones got printed up right now are for me to pass out when people come up to me asking if I'm working with the press (2 comments today!) or people that have heard about my website, or people that are interested in seeing some of my pictures. Has my website address on it along with my website email - sure looks a lot more professional (and handy!) just passing out a card rather than digging for a scrap piece of paper to write everything down on ;).
