I just swapped from crushed coral to KolorScape sand. My tank now looks like an extra thick vanilla milkshake, with alot of foam on top. I have 2 filters running right now. I'm getting a little nervous though. It is taking a long time to clear up. Meanwhile ,all my coral and one fish are all in buckets and a rubbermade storage container on the floor getting cold. I keep switching my 2 heaters around but I can't do that all night. Does anybody have any expierence with this. How long does it take to clear up enough to put my stock back in. Anything would be great.
I'm gettin a little freaked?

did you wash the sand at all? it takes days for sand dust to settle down even if you wash it, but i did put my corals back in as soon as i could

I didn't wash it because I read on here that the fine particulate is good for the bacteria that grows in a DSB. Anyway still real cloudy. The fish are running into the sides of the tank. I hope this doesn't take days. The woman will kill me!

Most people rinse the sand really well prior to putting it in the tank for this reason. I would increase the skimmer production to get some out, and put in a mechanical filter like a filter sock to catch the rest. be prepared to rinse it out often. IME, corals and fish were irritated with it, but it wasn't fatal. HTH

I did that with my first tank. Had a Penguin HOB filter that I put paper towels on the filters to clear that stuff out of the water. Took about a week to clear it up. I wash the snot out of my sand anymore.

looks like momma's gonna be mad.
by the sounds of it , it's not going to clear for a while
thanks guys
