Anybody know where to get PVC Sheeting locally?

One of these days I want to get the top of my tank covered. I already have everything framed I just need 2x4 panels that are water proof, light weight, paintable and won't cost me a fortune. I'm stating to like PVC sheeting but everywhere I look they want about 25% of the total cost for shipping....$50 to ship $200 worth of material is a bit much.

I also considered sealing wood panels but I'm afraid of long term warping. Also considered black acrylic but it was even more expensive.

This is basically what I'm looking for:

If anybody know local dealers of this type of stuff, please let me know.

Thanks.

Is the material your looking at textured? Can't tell from the pic on my phone. You can try Grim's Plastic in Harrisburg. I got a sheet of black ABS really cheap.

Take a look at FRP board at Lowes or HD

Its white fiberglass reinforced sheet panels & can be cut to any size

MAMGM...Does the FRP stuff need to be sealed? All the stuff I saw at lowes/hd didn't appear to be water proof without layers of sealant. Maybe I was looking at the wrong spot. I did find "tuff board" at home depot which is made from PVC and is actually what I used to build the frame, but I need 1/8 or smaller thickness which isn't offered...plus I need 2x4 sheets of it...that stuff is HEAVY too! I love it for my frame though. I'll have to look again.

Dan....I sent them an email...Thanks.

Chris...All I really care about is that it's light weight, rigid enough that it won't need any support to stand 4' tall, 2' wide (beyond support from falling over..it will sit in a rail), paintable on the dry side (so it will match the living room walls), will hold up to moisture without warping on the wet side, can handle heat exposure within about 2 inches from a MH pendant (next to it, not under it) and is a cheap as possible. :)

Here's a an old shot of the tank that has the frame up:

You can see a frame on the ceiling, and if you look close there is a strip across the front of the tank at the top connected at the sides with PVC panels to the top trim. That whole "hood" is anchored to the ceiling, not sitting on the tank. I want panels that will fit in between the trim and tank (there is plenty of room) and will actually sit ON the tank itself. I worked up a prototype out of wood and it came out nice, but I'm afraid it will take too much effort to seal and if it warps even the slightest bit it will let light out where the panels line up.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Dude the tank looks awesome.

Actually it looks even better now..that was before the heater malfunction that nuked the corals followed by the ich pandemic...but it's all recovered now. I just need to take new shots.

And I found the FRP at HD...kind of...I found the EMPTY pallet anyway. I'll have to find it someplace else. $25 for an 8x4 sheet is pretty good if it will work for me, but I'll need to see it.

Sorry for the late response. I think you can use it as long as you reinforce it like you mentioned. When I bred fresh water Angels, I used it for tank tops and back panels on all the tanks and never had any problems . Good Luck!
