anybody near athens have acans for sale??

Too bad you missed the frag swap in Nashville. There were so many beautiful ones on sale for the fraction of prices that online or local shops charge. If you don't find one around here soon, you might try the next frag swap which should be coming up in June this year. I am sure you'll find very good ones there as well. I was hoping that it will be in Chattanooga, but It's going to be in Knoxville unfortunately.

Is the Knoxville swap going to replace the one in Chattanooga? I had been thinking it was a separate event.

The annual Nashville frag swap was held at Pleasant Green Recreation Center in Goodlettsville, TN. and it was approximately 125 miles from Madison. It was practically 2 hours away for me.

Evidently the frag swap in Knoxville is separate from the one in Chattanooga. The annual Chattanooga frag swap is usually held in July or August. I have not heard anything about their swap so far this year, though.

We should try to hold one here in North Alabama in the near future, don't you think? I was beginning to work on it and then the person who was offering the space kinda backed out of it. We are back to square one on it. We need to find a place to hold it first. It would be nice to have a place that is close to major roads and strategically located (close enough to Huntsville, Birmingham, Nashville, and Chattanooga.)

I'll help all I can on the swap, Tomoko:). I don't knwo what is up around that way, though. If anyone knows of a place with an open space, electrical outlets, easy/close access to the door from the parking lot (for loading and unloading), preferably solid/semi-non porous flooring, throw them out so someone can check them out. Churches (gymnasiums), Community Centers, parks (some state park locations have halls and would most likely be cheap like the community centers-just found one here in Montgomery this past weekend that I thought might be a decent option for this area), schools (colleges/universities or high schools may have large classrooms or gyms relatively cheap), etc. Gettign a location is usually the hardest. Our first year in Nashville (2nd MTRC swap), we had it at the Radisson because they had the big meeting rooms that were partioned. I could add on sections as the expectations grew. It ended up being too small and the following year, they tripled the price on me, so I lucked into the community center off the suggestion of a club member at the December meeting;). When people are hungry for coral crack, things just start coming together quickly:D.

BTW, beenbag, I have some Aussie Acans (et al) left from the swap, but I'm down in Montgomery...

I hope you can help to make it a reality. This has to be a joint effort of many people. There is no set plan although we can model ours after Nashville and Chattanooga frag swaps. We must first secure a place and then work out the layout for tables, vendor spaces, etc. We will need some people contacting local shops, online vendors, and manufacturers. We must have help to receive and hold donated items till the day of swap. There are people needed on the day of the swap for collecting admission if we are charging one, handing out door prize tickets, selling raffle tickets, etc.

We may have a place. Mariner told me that we may be able to use his school's cafeteria. The cafeteria is a little larger than the room that MTRC had their frag swap at in the Goodlettsville recreation center. It has a plenty of tables, too.

We will discuss this further in this month meeting.

Tomoko,
Do you want to start a frag swap thread or should I just hijack this one? :)

Put me down for the guy who calls the manufacturers and begs for door prizes and sponsorship.

?????

That was for how fast a potential place was found for the swap;). Only took a couple of days with eyes out.

Tim - Thank you for your offer! I will count on you for that.

gflat - I am glad that you are here to help us. You are definitely a great resource!! Just having you on our side is the biggest start. Mariner always told us that we should be able to use his school's cafeteria. It was very nice that he spoke up before I came begging for the space.

We will discuss the swap a bit more in detail with the folks this month to find what other resources we have on hand. I hope we can talk Sarris Underwater into setting up their table/booth in our swap.
