Anyone aquaworld recently?

I have been going to Aquaworld for many years..I think they are at a LOW now..it use to be great when you could go there and there would be a TON of frags of things..and then you ask for just a small frag and can get it..now all they really offer is the $5 frag tank..most other things are just things in tank not for sale blah blah..And the 2 other tanks with stuff for sale is OUT of their mind price..$75 for a 3head frogspawn, $65 for a small suncoral..GTFO..That use to be the place of awesome deals with awesome corals..They can keep the Jason foxworthy corals and the over priced name stuff..it seems they only seem to try and cater to the reef 2 reef forum and act like high end dealers there..last weekend was probably my last trip there as its not worth the drive anymore like it use to be..its nice they got 2 new tanks up that look good..but what good is it if they say nothing in those tanks are for sale.

I agree Acanlover, people are being defensive and saying that a 5$ frag tank is a ridiculous thing to complain about. As I've said higher in the thread, and you mention as well, I complain about the 5$ frag tank because it's the only coral in the store for bloody sale!

And turbo, I pick on Aquaworld for two reasons. Because I was there more recently than the others, and because it's the store I often have high hopes for (thus disappointment).

If you look at stores like Phishy Business in columbus, pittsburgh stores are a complete joke. Phishy Business is a small hole in the wall of a shopping strip, but you go inside and they have a huge frag tank right in the middle of the store with hundreds of frags (softball sized chalices 20$ for instance) and healthy to boot.

Its almost as if other stores can keep fragging something if it doesn't sell right away, whereas pittsburgh stores have to price their **** exorbitantly because it's going to die in a week in their tanks and it's the only way they THINK they can make money.

Why are we supporting brick and mortar when they are trying to take advantage of us and killing things faster than a new hobbyist would.

It doesnt have to be this way. It could be so much better.

yea it sucks..That use to be my go to place to go get some good stuff for the tank..I have bought so many awesome frags there in the past. But I guess all good things come to an end sometime. Maybe if they stop trying to act like they only deal high end and just start getting lots of frags in for good prices like back in the day it will be the place to go again..use to be tons of acans, micromussa, acro and zoa frags in all the tanks i would spend like over an hour just looking around before even picking out anything.

Pittsburgh and columbus are 2 different areas, The pittsburgh area has shown that it can not support the hobby as well as other places.

just look at the amount of posts in the central ohio and north ohio club forums. they total over 180,000 posts with our pittsburgh thread coming in with 26,000. You can see that there are just that many more reeefers which allows the stores to bring in more

Most stores in this are have gone out of business because no one will buy anything.

Remember poseidon. Gone
atlantis gone
that place in squirrel hill (cant remember the name) gone
west hills pet center gone

i was in a petco today in morgantown that had a frag tank with ora corals. wish our petco's here had that. but all of the big box stores in this area have pulled their saltwater for lack of sales

you keep saying how much algae and aiptasia are over running the $5 tank, but you wont believe myself, Implac or Ray Nist saying the frag tanks now look better and there is no more algae or aiptasia. Every place has its ups and downs but aquaworld is now on the upswing. Why dont you take a ride down this weekend and check out the tanks and Talk with Jeff, everything in there is for sale, maybe you are just not talking with the right person. And then get back with your report monday

no the frag tank is clean but thats ALL they offer really.
I also love the tank in back that says ALL these corals are sold..they have ALL been sold since last time I was there in April and still there last week..you can barely see into the tank cause its never cleaned..Then the other thing is...all the stuff they have listed forsale on their online web page..I didnt see any of that stuff anywhere in the store. I am sure they will sell the stuff but since it says NOT for sale they will want to charge you soo much more..Bring back the tile saw back in the supply isle and start fragging more and better stuff. Jeff seems to have gotten greedy compared to how he was selling few years ago..i use to be able to get good deals off him..but not anymore...everything is some designer named coral so its 10x the price. I am complaining cause I have been there so many times and in past year and half it just started to take a turn for the worse.

again turbo when I made the thread I was curious to hear if there were any changes to the store prior to making the trip. Someone said it was cleaned up so i visited a day later. Look at post #4, I was let down. There is still algae and aiptasia inside all but the nicest two display tanks which contain nothing for sale.

And ive asked them to make frags of zoas, xenia, acros, etc. in the past, it was always this huge ordeal and hindrance. Only once they agreed to frag something for me and they threw a hissy fit like a 12 year old by making pronounced "sighs" as they did it. Sorry I'm not willing to throw 300 clams on a "designer" colony that is probably going to die in the long run anyways because of it's health in the store. Nobody else wants to either, that's why all the "sold" coral has either died or been stationary for a year.

Were you asking jeff to frag the corals or one of the other employees?

I will only buy coral from jeff, fish i will buy from any of the salespeople.

It's a joke get it u have a 5 yo kid he will probably toss crayons in the tank n kill it before your aqua world live stock dies

We are all entitled to our opinions, but please keep in mind that many of the stores we are talking about do a great service to our club by offering club members a discount on some (or all) items and many also regularly donate corals, drygoods and livestock to our raffles.

You have to deal with Jeff. I was in there about 2 months ago and they had the strawberry shortcake. I asked if i could get a frag and he did it right on the spot. He is the only one that deals with the main coral. Next time, ask them to call Jeff.

i stopped in last night and the tanks are looking really good, snapped 2 pics to share with my semi busted I phone ( fell in bucket of saltwater)
