Has anybody gotten a custom tank/sump from krittercreations?

They're local (north of palo alto) and a lot of LFS use them (like atlantis aquarium). I was thinking of getting a custom tank from them, but not sure.

anybody have any experience?

my buddy just bought a custom tank from them, and they made a custom 140g cube for our office. I've never dealt with them personally, but i've only heard good things about him.

He built my 90RR and 17 gal refugium. His workmanship is good. Like Lapsan said, I had to place my order through a LFS with my specs and a couple of weeks later it was done.

maybe if I order a huge prop tank at the same time, they'll go for it. Or I'll ask the Vendors the site lists.

mygirls - how much was that 90RR cost and what's the dimension?

ditto! any pictures? internal/external overflow?

I just posted pictures (my first time) in my gallery. Can't figure how to resize the picture. As for cost, my wife bought it for me for Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary/Father Day gift that will cover the next x years. I don't really have a breakout since it was a package deal. Sorry for the lack of $

If you want good customer service & follow-up on a krittertanks, get it through Steve at:

Lucky Ocean Aquarium
Balboa & 2nd Ave

He'll make sure everything is right on your custom tank. 2 of the 3 tanks I owned are made by krittertanks and I purchased through Cesar at:

H2O Habitats
San Francisco CA

Cesar is one of my aquarium technicians and he would do great in getting you what you want as well.

Krittertanks do not take orders directly, you must go through one of the authorized dealers. My retangular reef ready tanks were made exactly to my specs. The normally sharp edge front corners on a large tank were rounded out. My smaller tank has the rounded front corners. The top edges were sanded and flame polished. The lid opennings were router out smooth and flame polished as well. Tank cost itself wasn't much different than a TruVu tank, but the custom work is so much more reasonable than what TruVu would charge. They can make whatever you want, no project is too small if you go through one of the dealers.

Expect a minimum of 3 weeks turnaround time depending on how many jobs they has lined up. BTW, they are located in San Carlos.

Thanks for the information!

I was wondering if you could post pictures of the rounded corners and those sand/flame polished edges. That would be awesome.

I already have a CAD design with holes etc. for my 30" tank, I'll just be increasing the length to 36". Perhaps Cesar could double check everything again too =)

I'll make the calls tomorrow. and if you could post detailed pix of the handy work, that'd be really cool.

thanks again

I'm getting my 180 from kritters in a couple weeks, I can get pictures and stuff if you haven't decided by then. :)

The more detail the design, the easier it is for them to calculate a quote for you. I can take some photos next week for you as I'm out of town right now and won't be back until Monday. I'm not sure if those features will show up on a photo.

Since you're doing a 36"L tank, the rounded corners is same like TruVu. But if you want something different, you just need to request it. As for the top edge, I believe that most tank fabricators will flame polish after they cut. Krittertanks sands down the edge first, then they flame polish, so a much nicer finish. The do this on all their tanks.
