Anyone done a meshmod?

Hey guys, I am thinking of doing the meshmod on my octopus nw200 i just got, never done one. I know there are threads around RC on how to do it, mostly my question is, who's done one, preferably on an octopus skimmer and does anyone have some of the material lying around I could by from them? I think you have to buy big pieces of the material and only end up using a little bit of it. thanks!

I have done it.

Not on an octopus, but on an ASM G3x with a Sedra pump.

The performance is noticable almost immediately.

The only thing is that you have to replace the mesh every few months as it starts to wear out and then it gets noisy. It is more noisy from the getgo, but not that bad.

I used Enkmat mesh. Works well and easy to work with. Unfortunately, I only have enough to redo my current setup so I will have to buy more soon so I can't help you out.

Hope this helps.

i am about to return mine back with the original needle wheel on my sedra 5000 G3 also. Mine has started breaking down every few months (atleast when i notice it isn't working) I never got the Enkmat, just used gutter guard, maybe the Enkmat is better.

you would probably be better off with the enkmat, so many people use that over gutter gaurd there has to be benefits to it over gutter guard.

well should be ordering mine today, hope all goes well. if anyone else has done one and has some tips please send them along :)

i don't believe the octopus have sedra pumps, didn't even look, haha. oh yea, found out, gutter gaurd not recomended due to being too heavy, enkamat much lighter and productive

Also, adding the extra weight of the gutter guard will put more stress on the motor and increase wattage used. Depending on the pump/impeller/skimmer people will use 2-3 layers of Enkamat. I have had best results with 2 layers on my ASM G2, but on my BM200 I used 3 layers and had the best results. My best advise is to experiment to see what works best for you. Just be careful that the mesh does not rub on the voulte and that it is trimmed properly. I hear people ask about waste being lodged in the mesh, I had the Bm200 runing for a year and never had to clean it. My G2 as well never had any trouble. And for your viewing pleasure here is todays shot of my meshmoded asm g2 This is 5 days of Nog on a 75 gallon tank 1 Fish. Hope this helps

I have a G2. anyone have detailed pics of how this mod is done. I have the mesh ready to go. someone gave me the mesh and some fishing line. Is that enough? Thanks!

I never used the fishing line, I use the black mini ties that come with the mehsmod kit. I used 2 layers of the pf4 . I have seen some people leave 4 pins to help seat the mesh , I personal removed all pins with a knife (careful you dont lose a finger) I drill 6 holes in the impeller and inserted the zipties through mesh and tied them down to the impeller. I made sure that none of the mesh was overlapping past the impeller, not one strand. The result is shown abouve, I am very happpy with it.. I will take a picture of the impeller for you later tonight if that helps

ciao ciao

Here are some pictures of when i did mine the first time. this is with the gutter guard - DOES NOT LAST!!!

i will be cleaning my impeller and selling it for someone else to try without ruining theirs. I gave up just because my skimmer is TOO difficult to remove.

I'd be interested in the impeller as I would like to test it out before I destory mine. What are you asking.
