Anyone else have a noisy Via Aqua 1300 pump

My Via Aqua was fine for about 2 days and now it makes this horrible grinding noise that is very noticeable. I have had it for about 3 weeks.

Im thinking of returning it what should I get instead other then a Mag. The mags are just out of my budget right now. Would a Quiet One be a suitable replacement?

Thanks.

I agree with you. They are super loud. I bought an existing tank that had a Via Aqua in the Sump. When it burnt out, I bought another one. The new one is much louder than the old model.

Right now, I have mine sitting on a gladware container that has the lid on and is about 1/2 full of sand the rest water. It cut the noise way down.

Your modification link looks interesting. Before I'd try it, I'd want to have a back up pump. I'd hate to mess with the main pump on my tank without a backup.

Best of luck,

Roy

reefD,

No restriction valve.

Racrumrine or anybody,

What pump would you recommend as a backup that does roughly the same gallons per hour or less.

Well I tried resetting the impeller and tightening the zip tie holding the hose to the nipple on the pump and it has calmed down the noise by quite a bit. My roomate still complains that it is too noisy, so I have to go with something else. What would be a similar pump that would be quit a bit quieter.

Thanks.
