Anyone else just fed up and tired?

Brandon,

The ones Critter sells, those large turbo snails. They are really good cleaners. Yes they do bulldoze stuffs over, but they're one of my best cleaners. Aside from those Zebra Turbos that cost $5/ea that Fins used to carry.....Those are the best!!!

I've seen Brandon's problem and I feel your pain man. I've struggled with a number of different algae issues through the time I've been in the hobby. You know the one sure cure for algae... 100% coral cover :)

Seriously though, if there is one thing I plan to do very differently when I ever get around to putting back up our 270 is the idea of really starting from scratch. I'm talking dry rock, quarantine like a mofo, only buying corals from people I know, only buying corals I know I can reasonably keep given the amount of time/energy I want to and can put into my tank and the equipment I've got, etc.

I'm sure you're in a similar boat as me... you've learned a lot through research, a lot through bonehead mistakes, and you want a chance to start from scratch and put all of the stuff you've learned into practice. There's no harm in that... but you can't stop fighting the good fight until you go to move at least :)

brandon, I was that way at one point this year. I actually had my 75 up for sale. I had conquered it. it has been running for close to 9 years and for the last 3, it was awesome. needless to say it didn't sell. i have no room for any new corals.

now, im trying new things. working on keeping anthias. so far, not much success, but getting there. about my tank:

1. no water changes
2. no dosing
3. no regular maintenence except scrubbing the glass and cleaning the pumps.
4. I dont do squat to my tank. it is truly just another piece of furniture, but I love it.

my best advice is to strive for new things. different corals, new fish types. go for the moon with things and see what you can do. for me it is now the anthias. im working on the purple queens. so far out of 3, I have one that is active and seems to be doing well, just never seen it gorge like the other fish. if it dont make it, we are looking and trying another type.

hang in there bro. i am so glad my tank didnt sell. it is awesome when folks come over and are "wowed" by the little piece of reef I have.

Good luck with those. They are a deep water species from what I understand and in our 270, the only thing they ever did was hide in the darkest corner of the tank until the lights went out (we had 3). On the other hand, we had great luck with a pair of lyretails, which are (IMO) the prettiest and cheapest Anthias you can regularly find.

Thanks for all of the replies, guys! I've got a feeling this just kind of comes along with the territory, but sort of in a good way. :)

And Rick, what do you know about starting new projects? :D

well so far so good. the one we have that is left seems go be doing well. IDK. I never see it eat. it is out alot but dispaears when you go up to the tank. but it is out at leat 60% of the time. the other two never came out. funny how that is. here soon, I may order me something else...
