Hmmm interesting...I wonder if that is why my frag tank is thriving so well...I have great growth in it...but I found out a few months ago by accident that I have a electrical potential of between 15 and 30 vac leaking into the tank...it is not coming from a bad component in the tank...just something that I have in some outlets in the house...
I live in an old house with most of the outlet only 2-pronged...I have put new circuits and outlets in my fishroom and other areas of the house...but the rest of the house has GFI outlets installed (approved way of meeting code in old houses with only two prong outlets)
Anyway...great growth in my frag tank with that voltage going through it!?!?!
<a href=showthread.php?s=&postid=11326940#post11326940 target=_blank>Originally posted</a> by CleveYank Greg you just replaced 2 wire black and white with 3 wire GFCI's?
yes...I understand it is a little controversial but as far as I know it is still legal (but don;t quote me, not an expert!) with the NEC to replace your 2 prong non-grounded outlets with 3 prong GFI's...when you do this you need to label the outlets as
"GFCI protected, No equipment ground"
Obviously the best way to do it is re-wire the house with 3 wire cable and put in new outlets...but I wasn't up for that chore...so I did the alternate way...with GFI's...I did rewire some of my house...fishroom, etc...
Now...I will say back when I replaced outlets with the GFI's...it was OK...not sure if it has changed as it was a controversial topic...
I would imagine there are some certified electricians here on the C-SEA forum that know for sure...
