Anyone ever built a DIY Oceans Motions?

Enjoy

That's what she said....
I am thinking about building my own version of an Oceans Motions 4, 6, or 8 way. I have aluminum stock to use, and plan on buying a 1rpm ac motor to turn the inside drum.

Can someone give me some input on how oceans motions seals the inside water tight? Do they just use standard O-rings?
Im also curious about the tolerance between the ID of the housing, and OD of the inner drum.
Any info will help. Thanks

Its a standard o-ring and strong magnets but your not gonna want to use aluminum because the water contacts almost every piece of the housing. The tolerances are kinda tight because the fine sugar sand and detritus would cause trouble with mine.

From wikipedia:

Soluble aluminium salts have some demonstrated toxicity to animals if delivered in quantity by unnatural routes, such as injection. Controversy still exists about aluminium's possible long-term toxicity to humans from larger ingested amounts.

I wouldn't risk it as aluminum does corrode and anything foreign I can keep out of my tanks is a plus.

Agreed, Thanks for the heads-up. I will look into different types of plastics.
