anyone ever have a crocea bore through you tank glass?

i have a 4" crocea that i have had for a couple months now. i had him on some rocks at sand level and i didnt feel that he was very comfortable there. after a couple months i moved him onto the sand and within a few hours he dug himself to the bottom of the sand and is vibrating on the glass. should i be worried?

No- imo it may be more of a concern that it's ingesting sand. It may be attempting to expel sand, if it's vibrating or moving a lot-

he is digging to find a hard surface to adhear to, my clams have done this, most of the time when they do move towards the glass though is because they are not getting enough light where they are and gt some more rays from teh reflection on the glass, i would place himd high up in your tank though.

i have a hard time believing my clam needs more light. he is in a 12" deep tank with a 150w MH 20k bulb directly above him. the light is about 12" off the top of the water.
to add one more thing, he is burrying himself in the sand down to the bottom glass. not towards the side glass.

Yeah, but a 20K bulb does not provide the same range of spectrum as a 10K bulb which is closer to natural light.

Croceas use a chemical to bore into coral heads. It disolves the coral head around it. I doubt it would do much to glass.

20k is fine. But to say that you have plenty of light may be false. 150's at 20k can be rather weak. Besides, croceas like to be in the rockwork.

i have found that my crocea doesnt seem to like the rocks. he is always trying to knock himself off the rocks. also, i have seen many pictures and seen a lot of posts where people have their croceas on the sand and they seem to be liking it. after 2 months of on the rocks, i figured i should try the sand. i am trying to avoid moving him very much. do they move around a lot normally? am i overreacting?
what is the light output difference between a 14k and a 20k bulb? or even a 10k and a 20k. i am still very new to this reef thing and havent researched the whole par thing too much yet. what kind of par should i be shooting for in my tank? it is hard to imagine the tank being any brighter than it already is now!

i have a crocea sitting on the sand. It attached itself to the glass bottom and is happy and extended been there for 2 months

anybody have some answers about the par of a 20k bulb???
again, the tank is VERY shallow and the light is fairly close to the water.

From what i have read croceas live in shallow water in the wild... Natural sun light is around 6000 K so they probably like those bulbs a lot. However , i am sure plenty of people have healthy croceas under 20 k halides...

Ask the grimreefer about the par output. He has done much testing.

As stated before in the thread... the clam will not bore through the glass... It can desolve calicum substrate and rock not glass. Obviously it's shell cannot physical bore through the glass if that's what you are asking....

I am sure if left anywhere long enough it will attach there... glass or rock. Most people have them attach to a piece of rock, whether in the sand bed or not, so they can move the clam without stressing it if needs be.
