Anyone had a jumper make a recovery?

Ugh ... basically my fish went carpet surfing & needless to say I've been trying to help it along since 11:10 pm est

Can anyone give me a shot in the arm & tell me a good story instead of the one I'm thinking of when I wake up tomorrow??? :uhoh2::sad2:

My blue velvet went surfing several months ago. Came out of the tank and landed on a concrete floor. Found the fish dry and stiff. Tossed it back into the tank and it sank like a stiff dead fish.

But when it hit the bottom of the tank I saw a gill move. The fish floated/drifted around the tank stiff as a board tail up just moving with the current. I watched for 30 minutes and nothing was happening.

Went to sleep with the fish floating in the current.

Next morning, fish was swimming around and eating normally. Wrasse has stayed in the tank since then.

I was transferring my true personifer by hand and it slipped out. It fell about 4ft, but something soft mid-way did break its falls before hitting the ceramic floor.

Another occasion I was trying to net my scribbbled angel. It jumped over the back of my tank and fell 5ft into the back of my stand. I had to run and get the longer net outside b/c I couldnt reach it. It was out of the water for a good minute and that was a very high fall too.

Both fish later ate okay without any apparent injuries.

Thanks Big old ... this is a bummer - I've been getting a bigger tank set up for it & wow, how ironic, LOL .... I can't sleep as it is ...

Geaux - It was my scribbled too! ... I can't say how long it was out but it wasn't exactly slimy when I picked her up & put her back in ... Dude - I was screaming at it like they do in the movies when someone's about to "crossover" to the otherside, LOL ... My wife thinks I'm officially nuts now ... it's resting in it's sleeping spot, but breathing heavy ... I'm very angry & sad ...

In my LFS I saw a Valenciennea strigata on the floor. I told my friend who owns that place that I'm going to put it back to the tank if it's ok. He told me to toss that fish away, believing it was dead. I said to him, that I had seen it in the tank just 15 minutes ago, and I'd like to try if it'll survive. And it did :) Soon it was swimming like nothing had happened.

I'll bet that if it's in it's normal sleeping hole and holding itself in place I think it will be fine. Hope for the best and don't worry about it. Worrying won't do any good for you, the fish, or your wife who already thinks you're nuts.

Just checked & it's definitely more alert & upright. I guess I can put the defribulator away for now

My flame hawkfish jumped twice. Once during acclimation, once during a water change.

Both time he fell on the dirty carpeted floor behind the tank, out of arms reach. I had to use a dirty old lacrosse stick to scoot him to the edge of the stand where I can reach him. He was in rigor when I grabbed him, sure he was dead. I held him underwater and wiped off the dust and lint off him. He was stiff, upside down in my hand. He then started breathing and I just held him for about 20 mins until he swam away on his own.

Well it's "holed" up behind the rocks again. Not swimming & actually pointing "upwards" so we're looking at each other :(
But breathing - I wish it would recover the way you guys mentioned your fish have ...

I had a blue sided wrasse jump about 5' and hit a ceramic floor. He must have been out a long time because he was dry. No sign of life. Put him in a bowl of water and about an hour later he had some shallow breathing. Took a few hours but recovered fine. Few months later, jumped again, didn't recover that time. The only place a found he could have gotten out was a 1/4" slit in my net top. He must have tried to wiggle through there. Good luck.

Well it's not looking good for her right now. I'm confused a little because @ 6am it was upright & alert - @ 9am, struggling again & on it's side. I was able to hold it while in the water last nite but now when I tried to coax it along, it exerted some energy & scooted away from me - spines got my hand too! Now it's on it's side in a corner breathing heavy again. Ammonia is 0 & ph is around 8ish. Water's a little cloudy

7 inch Pinktail Trigger jumped...only realized it because I smelled him...he looked horrible and just about dead...I figured severe brain damage at the minimum...put him back in his tank as he was still alive...he is alive and well and every bit the pita he was before the dive...still amazes me that he is alive...ps, he was totally dried out when i found him and was also upside down, stuck between the back of the stand and an electric heating unit (disconnected) that is mounted back there...he looked as lousy as you could imagine...good luck with yours...

Thanks Huma - I just have a small atinic on, but will shut it off now. I'm gonna pick a up an air stone & connect it to my little pump - good idea? Funny you mentioned the "smell" - it smelled terrible ....

yeah man, thank goodness for the smell or I would not have went looking...not sure I would add an airstone...if you have a powerhead in there or have one on hand just point it towards the surface and make sure the surface is really being broken...dont like airstones, can lead to nit. issues...

My eel hopped out of the tank sometime overnight. When i found him, he was barely breathing. I threw him back in the tank and he was back to normal in 2 days.

I've seen a LFS rescue a jumper and put it by an airstone for a while to help it back to good health.

Hoping I've got the same luck Insom - Huma I'll skip the airstone & just point the powerhead higher. I saw the fish on the floor - it was when I picked it up, the smell almost knocked me over, LOL ... poor thing

Well it's gone - it didn't make it :(
I'm incredibly sad ... a $10 egg crate top would have saved the day ...

so sorry...egg crate is a great thing to keep on hand...have it over my pinktail...live and learn...but real sorry for the loss...
