Anyone have a 36x24x24 tank using a Tunze Stream?

So I picked up my new tank, stand and sump today from socal creations. It's a 36x24x24 tank. I've been in the garage dry fitting all the new equipment i purchased while the tank was being built. I came across my new Stream 6000 and mounted it in the back corner with the tunze magnet mount to see what it would look like in the tank. From looking at it inside the tank. I get this feeling that it's going to be too powerful of a powerhead for my new 90g system. Not only that, it seems a bit bulky for this size tank. I kinda want to have a clean look in the display and try to keep bulky equipment to a minimum

Can any of you 36x24x24 owners chime in and let me know what your are using for flow in the display other than you're return pump? If you are using a Tunze Stream, can you tell me how it's holding up? What flow rates do you have it set to on your controller? Do you find the Stream too strong for the tank dimensions?

Stryker, has the same tankn dimension and he is currently using the Tunze stream 6100. I don't think it is going to be too much flow. But it is all depent what are you planning to keep

Sorry, I forgot to state that it will be a semi mixed reef with most of it SPS.
Damn, I shouldn't have sold my 6100 transformer lol.

honestly, i think 2x6000s would be good for you. I have two of them in my tank and they move water all over the place. I tried to place them so they weren't as visible, but it blew sand everywhere, then steve (reefer714) came by and redid everything and I get flow throughout the tank without the sand storm. Corals seem to love it.

Yinger, what did you change to not cause a sandstorm?

I had them both in the back corner on opposite sides pointing towards the opposite corners. Now i have them mounted on the side of the tank. One side is towards the front of the tank and one is towards the back on the other side. works much better now.

If you are planning to keep just zoo's and softy like Yinger. You do not need the 6100, the 6000 is more than enough for your 30x30x24.

zoos and softies huh haha. :D actually i wish i had the 6100s now, but i still think the 6000s will be enough for you. I fyou want to see softies, check out steve's gsp collection haha

Why don't you sell me your 2x6000 stream and buy the 6100. I can use it to circulate water in my sump :). Let get back on track with the tunze. I think you should give the 6000 a chance if you are not happy with it, you can always change the transformer. IMO, 2x6000 will rock your 30x30x24 especially when you mounted on the back wall and set that bad boy on pulse. Do that and you'll know what i'm talking about.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply, been out most of the day, had to drive the tank back to socal creations to drill my return hole lol. My mistake since I didn't really do an inspection prior to picking it up yesterday.

Anyhoo, I'll be doing a leak test tonight and will mount the stream in the back with the magnet and see how it goes. I also have a deco rock but it is bigger than I expected. Any of you guys have this in this sized tank?

Thanks for the replies. I will be posting pics on my other thread in regards to the tank set up and all.

Remember i have a 36x24x24

I dont recall if i had a 6000 or a 6100. anyway, just dial the tunze down a tad if its to much flow. Id say mount it on a side/ pane aimed across the tank in a diagnal direction towards the front corner. It should then hit the front corner and swirl across the entire front and rear of the tank. give that a shot.

I need to go down there to pick up my new sump too. let me know if you got anymore questions as you and I have identical tanks, stands, and almost identicle sumps.

Heh, I did see a finished sump or two there. I guess one of them is yours. Man they are working their asses off in that hot shop cranking out orders.

Ok, so I just plumbed my tank and filled it up for leak testing and I put in the Stream 6000. Do these things run silent or do they make a buzzing sound? Mine is making a buzzing sound and it gets rather annoying when it switches between the low and high RPM's. My plumbing is dead silent and the buzz coming from that Stream is the only thing I hear. Is this normal?

i had it for a few days and now i don't hear a thing. Just give it a little bit to break in the motor.

Ok, cool. I didn't know there was some sort of break in period. For a min there I was saying to myself, I spent a few hundred bucks on a noisy pump!

Thanks for letting me know.

Oh doh, I totally forgot, thanks for reminding me. I took pics and posting them completely slipped my mind! I'll post them on my tank thread in a lil bit.
