Anyone have a kole tang for sale?

I've put money down and reserved a kole tang at AC, but I've been told this particular fish and the other one AC has appears to have some kind of fungus and/or parasites. So, I'm pretty skittish about getting it. :(

I'm just curious if by chance anyone around here has one they want to get rid of that is in perfect health?

Also, if anyone is going to AC in the next few days... please take a look at him and give me your take on it. Its on the end of an isle and should have a yellow sold tag on it to me...Ryan Steagall.

Thanks everyone,
Ryan

I went Monday and noticed it. I don't know what was wrong with it. It did have what looked like brownish color blotches on both sides, like 5 marks on one side. I did notice it scraping its side in the sand like it had an itch or something. It's color didn't look the best to me either at the time. Kind of faded. But it seemed very active.

Not yet, but I have to go by there tomorrow at about 6pm
I'll take a look.

I would appreciate it. I've never bought a tang before and would have to have a bad first experience. If you say it looks bad too, I'll just call AC and have them move my money over to a bucket of salt :(.

I'll be in the area Thursday. I'm gonna be at Christ Church (just down the road) for my friends dad Memorial Service. I was planning on swinging by AC on my way home. I'll look at it then too if you want to wait it out. It seems like alot of their yellow tangs are blotchy too. Maybe it's nothing serious and just stress related? I wouldn't know...

I am picking one up from Emerald Bay. They could order you one, they are getting their livestock from a really kick *** source as of late.

I just got back from the critter. I picked up a trigger today. :)
The one they have for you doesn't look all that great. The way he acted in the tank also didn't give me the healthy impression. They did have another that looked good to me.

I think I remember seeing 2, the one sold to you and another that was in the top row across from the freezers.

Steve

Yours was on an endcap across from the mag pumps ect. The other was on that same row on the inside maybe 3 sets of tanks down in the middle tank. It seemed to be acting good and I didn't see any marks. Granted I wasn't there to get a kole tang. I had just seen your name on the one and checked him out. Personally I would not buy him. We can't add many fish to our tanks and Kole Tangs arn't rare to find. I was there to find a Humu trigger which they had a nice selection at the time and, I brought home a nice one.

I see in your list of fish a blue jaw listed. They had a nice one as well which almost tempted me to purchase.

When I put money down on mine, the one across from the freezers had something really bad wrong with its mouth =\.... I dunno... Kind of dissappointing, but I'm definitely holding off for now.

I'm no longer looking for one.

I went to ATL this weekend and found a great condition one at The Fish Store & More http://www.thefishstore.com/ . All of their fish were in top notch shape! They are also one of the few people that actually date when their fish arrive. This kole I got had been there for almost a month. It was a little shy, but had great color. They were kind enough to give me the standard 10% club discount. :) In my tank its already moving about.

On the way home, I also stopped by cappuccino bay http://www.cappuccinobayaquarium.com/ in Marietta. Here I picked up some xmen/lunar eclipse zoas and a superman monti. If you're a coral junkie, this place is well worth a day trip to check it out. Their setup is simply amazing.

All in all... good finds for the day today! :)

cool....post pics when you get a chance. Did AC refund your money or give you store credit for the one they was holding for you?

I called asked them to hold on to the money and give me store credit. The girl I talked to said that the Kole was definitely looking bad. As much as I wanted it, I'm glad I didn't take it home. I'm certain I would have brought it home if it wasn't for all your opinions. Thanks to everyone for helping me out!

That was real cool of them to just "hold on to it to see" kinda thing they do for people! Class act in my book there. I was wanting to drop some $ on a fish and they were honest about it never eating and steered me away from it a few weeks ago. I really appreciate it they take the hit for us like that. I know its not cheap to let fish die on them instead of in our tanks, which happens many times if a store just sells it anyways! We are very lucky to have a few great LFS to shop with in the area. Glad you got a healthy one.
FWIW I have read bristletooth tangs (Kole) are very prone to get mouth injuries during shipping as you mentioned one earlier in the thread there had a mouth problem.

I agree with you that is is a class act thing to do. The only bad thing
is that 2-3 of their employees said that it was perfectly fine, 2 of them said it was sick, a couple more of them said it was sick, and everyone here that visited said DO NOT BUY. The variance of opinions of its health on their part is a little concerning. With that said, if any LFS will hold a fish for you... I suggest letting them do so for at least a few days.

When I did call, the girl was very honest with me and said that it did not look good at all and their supplier was having a lot of trouble with Koles. She said they haven't got a healthy kole in the store in a very long time.

Remember me talking about The Fish Store & More in ATL? I wish AC dated when they received their fish like they do. Its honestly not good to go run into the LFS the day they receive animals and buy them all up. I think they should all be QT'd or held for at least a week to better determine their health. Listing receive dates would allow buyers to do this on their own.

Today my new Kole still looks great! It appears that it may have buddied up with the six line wrasse I have. :) Talk about a strange relationship, although they are very similar in color and markings.
