I am trying to save money and buy it used and NOT NEW.
it would even be better if it had a gate valve mod and a recirc mod.

lol what happened to the one that you were going to get?

did you order the plumbing supplies?

The plumming supplies are in the mail. I have the bulkhead on and siliconed. I also have 2" PVC and and 90 elbo on, I am just waiting for the True union ball valve so I can cut off the line and actually fill the tank to begin a cycle.

I am going to fill it below the overflow line, as I don't have those bulkheads yet either.

and I am trying to get a desent price on the skimmer, the one great one I missed because I had to get rid of the tank. otherwise, everyone sells them for the same price as you can purchase them new.

yup... what did you silicone? the gasket goes on the inside creating a water tight seal...

I'm curious too why you had to silicone the bulkheads? Also, I figure that for a tank that large it's hard to find a decent priced skimmer because they will all cost quite a bit.

I siliconed everything to ensure no water leaking. I siliconed both inside the tank part of the bulkhead and the back of the tank. I figured I had nothing to lose.

I was about to purchase an asm g4x skimmer with gate valve and recirc mod for $300 used. But it was at the time I was selling the tank- so I had to pass.

They are only $365 new and everyone tries to sell them for $350.

So, what are you going to do if you ever need to take off the bulkhead/replace or even to reposition them? Saw it off somehow? Also, how old are those skimmers? And where are you finding it for only $365 because I swear prices went up with the ASM skimmers.

atm, at asmskimmer.com the price for a asmg4x is 368.99.

and if I have to remove bulkhead, the silicone will notstop the removal of it. silicone is pretty easy to remove. I can just twist the bulkhead and it will come loose

do you want a in sump or outside? If you looking for in sump I have a Copy DIY ASM G-4 skimmer it is a recirculation skimmer, comes with sedra 9000 ( one of the sticking foot plate is broken )

anyway 100 cash for it. I will try to post a few pics.

ASM raised their prices and asmskimmer.com is clearing out their inventory because of the higher prices. That's why you see it advertised at $368.99 on that site. It's on clearance. Once Rob is sold out of them, they are gone. Anywhere else you'll be paying $400+ for one. This is why you see people selling their used ones for the prices you have been quoted. I would recommend buying the G4 from asmskimmer.com since you won't see that kind of pricing again and may end up with a used one for 10-20 bucks less if you wait too long. Luckily for me I got my G3 before the price hike.

Exactly, on the ASM website that model is sold out.

Rich they still have the G4X (fyi) hehe

Oops, I jumped the gun on responding. haha. I guess $368 is a desent price.

Well from my experience using silicone on bulkheads has made things go from good to bad. Been there done that.
It's because you can and will get an uneven seal because the silicone interfere with the gasket sealing/seating properly.
Time will tell.
