Anyone have any dry base rock for sale?

I am looking for 100 - 150 pounds of dry base rock to add to my fish only tank. Let me know how many pounds you have and how much you want for it. I really don't want to buy live rock at $4 - $6 per pound for this tank since its just a fish only tank.

Thanks!

Kevin

Kevin, For good looking base rock you may consider getting the holey rock that Steve or Wet Pets sells. Or you can do what I have done which is super cheap. Go to the rock quarries that are all around the area. Many of them have interesting calcium based stone.

I have gotten mine from Reeferrocks.com, and not only did I find the price was right, but the rock is so pourous that you can get fairly decent sized pieces with less weight. If you look on my 75 update, which is on page 2 now, you can see the right side of my tank has about 30 lbs of dry base rock that I ordered. The other side of the tank also has 35 lbs of base rock that I ordered about 6 or 7 months ago. I'm not endorsing them, just giving my experience and another option, 55lbs would be a lot of rock volume from there, IMO, and would cost like $106 before shipping.

I have a slab of dried reefrock......its a big piece but it can be split easily and has lots of holes in it.

It is about 12 inches by 10 inches and is about 5 inches thick. Weighs around 30lbs or so.

PM me if you are interested.

Thanks everyone for the information!

Travis,
I might try a DIY rock some day just because it sounds like fun.

hiflykitty,
Thanks for the offer on the holey limestone! I have used it quite extensively in my freshwater tanks, but I already started the tank with 80 lbs of dry base rock so I am not sure how that would look mixing the two. So I will pass on it for now. Have you used it in your saltwater tanks?

djc1026,
Seems like shipping eats you up on the rock. That's what I was afraid it would be like. However the rock you got looks good.

I have used limestone without any problems in my saltwater tanks. it makes good base rock, and if you hide it with regular rock you can't tell the difference.

As a safe precaution, make sure that you soak the rock in freshwater for about 24 hours and double check the pH to make sure it doesn't adversely effect your tank. But in general, limestone is a great alternative to LR.

Thanks Casey! I see they sell a " 1 ton+ "TOTE" " that should fix me up for rock!

Its says free shipping, how long did it take for you to get your order and who do they use for shipping?

I wish i could remember who they used to ship... best guess is UPS because of the weight involved... but it only took a week or so to get it in. if i remember correctly it actually ships from California...

EDIT: yup.. i was right...

im sure if you email them they can get you different weight options and prices... you cant hardly beat $1+/- per pound shipped for good rocks

I have about 200lbs of REALLY nice premium marshall and tonga that I pulled out of my tank when I broke it down last year (ex-wife turned off the power and let tank drop to 50 degrees for a month, so there was no point in saving the "live" rock). Left them out on a rock wall for a year to let everything leech out and they are bleached white. Big pieces selected for shape. Totally clean and dry at this point. Happy to sell to you, but have no idea what to charge.

If you are interested I could take some photos...
