Anyone have experience having tank built on site?

I would like to have a 500+ gallon reef and have been planning on it for some time. However, the one area that has given me problems is getting it into my house. Because of a pool in the backyard, I cannot get a forklift or crane in the back which would be the only entrance.

Anyone have experience having a tank built on site?

How long did it take?

What was the cost above what it could have cost if you didn't have built on site?

Glass or acrylic?

Any other advice???

Anyone know of someone who could do it in Tampa?

I got a 560/g 120x36x30 into my house just using people power and 2 rolling dollies. if its a door size problem its one thing but if not don't waste your money. I have moved a more then a few large tanks with just people power some with suction cups some without. You can also hire moving companies to move and bring the people power.

I built mine on site, they did 3hrs one day and about a week later did another 2hrs or so. It cost a little bit extra not much at all in the over all build cost.

I notice you are from Hollywood..Im at the HW Marriott right now on business....

Anyway...it is not really people power that is the problem. I have a 3 story house and it is going on the 2nd story. My problem is that the front entrance has winding stairs to the 2nd floor and I can't get enough people to be on the narrow stars to lift it high enough over the stair rails (cant take down the rails) and be able to go up the winding stairs.... can't get it in through the back yard... I would need to get it up about 15 feet high and couple possibly get it in through some porch doors....

anyway thanks for all the suggestions....

We just moved a 500 gallon glass tank, and there is no way I could imagine carrying it up a staircase.

We ended up using a small telehandler to place the tank on a heavy duty four wheel cart.

Wheeled it to the location and than used jacks to lift it to height. I had estimations that the overall weight was about 800lbs.

If it has to be glass, I vote to have it built on site. :)
