hey everyone i just got a crocodile fish on monday and it hasnt eaten anything yet. i tried frozen shrimp, squid, silversides and ghost shrimp. the only info i can get on them is that they get kind big, but cant get any info on their feeding habits. does any one have any personal experience with them? all i know it has amazing camoflauge, its very hard to spot when its under the sand, much like a flounder.

Crocodile fish belong to the family Platycephalidae which means flatheads. It is known to eat crustaceans and other species of fish. The Crocodile Fish grows to a maximum size of approximately of 1.5 to 3 feet depending on the species.

From wetwebmedia - "Crocodilefishes, family Platycephalidae. Related to Scorpionfishes, though only commonality for aquarists is their penchant for swallowing tankmates. Nine species are found in the Red Sea. The most common is pictured: Papilloculiceps longiceps. Occasionally sold in the hobby, should be avoided. "

If you plan on keeping him try adding damsels to the tank for him to eat.

Yea I Would go Cheaper than that I would say Mollies! They can leave in Salt water for long periods of time and they a 2.00 a pop here.

iv had one for 1 year now. only 7'' and in a 55gal FO. They need a sandbed. Drop some mysis and it should eat it. Also ghost shrimp work well.

mine is about 6" so i thought it would need bigger prey items but ill give mysis a try and see how it goes.

Mollies are not a true marine fish and should be avoided though they are superior to freshwater feeders such as goldfish, minnows and comets.

yeah i tried ghost shrimp didnt take it, i tried mysis and it seemed like he was interested but still didnt take it.

well sorry but i wont be able to put a pic, when i got home my dad told me that it had died. he already tossed it out. lesson learned, never get a fish until u know that it is eating. but thank u all for all the suggestions.
