My wife has never really gotten into the fish tank thing, Just walk's by look's for a sec and carry's on. But today she was watching me browse through Dr.Fosters and spotted an octopus and really want's one. I no that they are hard to keep, But so are shark's and i had one for 6 year's before i had to donate him due to size. So i am looking for any real life exp that hobbyist have had with these wonderful creature's. This is the perfect chance to get her to enter my world of aquarium's.

Cool site. It always amazes me that someone somewhere on this site has answers or knows where the answers are found for any question. Very helpful.

I have cared for them for short periods of time. Have gotten some to eat krill, but for the most part fed them hermit crabs. Be sure to have a tank that is tightly covered, as they can squeeze their bodies through tightest of spaces left open. They are very curious and will find a way out if there is one. I'm sorry but I can not comment on long term care or health of these guys, but don't think they have a very good track record.

I have kept a number of them, including a blue ring octopus for 7 months before turning him over to a university for research. Although there are a plenty of folks keeping these beautiful and interesting animals I have personally become opposed to keeping octopi in home aquaria. The main issue is they are delicate and not long lived animals. Not really a fan of disposable pets. For display or educational purposes I at least feel they serve a purpose.
