What kind of sand is that in your tank Matt?

I can't say! I'll get flamed for it!

Just kidding. It's actually silica sand. White sandblasting sand. I bought it at Menards for like $3 for a 50lb bag of the stuff. There's a lot of debate on using silica sand so before you use it read up on it and make your own decisions. I haven't had any problems at all.

Well, it looks really good!
I have a friend in Gulf Breeze, Florida that has agreed to ship me a bunch of sand that is 99.6% quartz rock that has the texture of sugar and looks just like it too!

Quartz shouldnt cause any issues in a reef tank should it?

The sand will come from a private beach and he also agreed to bake it before shipping to help minimize any issues in the tank.

Any opinions?

I personally don't think you'll have a problem with it, but make sure you rinse it VERY GOOD!
