as a return pump from a fuge? I have one and it says it can be used in an aquarium. Do they generate much heat?

I need a return pump for the fuge I am putting on my 2gallon pico. The fuge is bigger than the tank.

whats' the wattage on it? Usually higher wattage = more heat. But the best way is to test it and see how it does. If its not too bad (or if you can bring it right back down w/a simple clip on fan) then i'd just use that personally. Make sure that its safe w/salt water first tho. Not all pumps are i dont think.

Just a guess but a pond pump might not work for salt water, because it might have metal parts that will rust in salt water. If you try it let us know how it works for you. Good luck.

They're basically the same thing, except the impeller may be a lower grade of stainless steel. I've used a couple of small fountain pumps and they don't last long in saltwater.

For the low price an appropriate powerhead will cost I'd say just get one approved for saltwater. You don't want circulation to fail in a tank that small.
