anyone here have a planted tank?

I use to have a 60 planted. I ran 65Wx4 PC 65k . Alot of light so just went with 3 x65Ws.
I used natural gravel, small grain size mixed with Laterite.
I had a CO2 5lb tank with JBJ regulator and bublbe counter and Glass diffuser. Dosed about 2 bubles per sec.
Had CO2 on the same timer as lights(8hrs).
Dosed Iron weekly. Used heater set at 81F.
Inspired by Amano planted books.

I am having great success with mermaid's fan and shaving brush algae. Now I am working on the best ways to propagate the mermaid's fan. In the past I used to grow some pretty red macroalgaes really well. A deep sand bed is really important if you are going to attempt sea grasses. If you order Carribean stuff you may be able to get cheaper prices direct from a collector. There are several collectors that regularly sell stuff on ebay...they usually sell hermits, dwarf sea horses and ricordeas too. I got my algae from Danac305 on ebay, he even threw in a free gorgonian. Great guy!

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was my 1000th post what a waist:(

Just one of many my friend. One of Many!:frog: ;)

Congrats on 1000 :celeb1:

I have a variety of macro algaes if you ever get your tank up. I don't have seagrasses because I don't have the lights or the DSB. YOur momma, even though she is a lovely lady, is probably not going to let you run the MH's either.

When your ready, let me know. :)

Not all seagrasses require super bright lights and a DSB. Halophila typically does fine in shallow beds with lower light; it's the route I am going for my seagrass tank. Specifically H. decipiens and H. engelmanni; I'm not sure about H. ovalis.

However, they do still need nutrients that would be stored in a mature sand bed.

You could grow macro algaes with a 36w on that 30g. More light is better IMO, but that would sustain and allow for some growth.

Nicole thanks for the tip on the Halophila. I'll have to check that out. I have some good lights and a mature bed but have never seen any grasses except uner the hailides. thanks.

So are you guys doing a refugium as main display? Pretty cool... I have a 20g refugium so I sometimes find myself spending a bit too much time staring at it....Even visitors look at the fuge forever simply because they think I have two tanks running.... Anyway having a Fuge type tank dedicated as a main display must look awesome!

Ive seen some really cool looking macros on LiveAquaria.com and aquacon I think...

Keep us updated and whoever has one post a pic, Id like to see one.

Thanks

Sam
