reptiles... :)

i've always been interested in "lizards" ever since we used to get anoles at the circus 100 years ago.. we'd take them home, along with some meal worms, and proceed to lose them in the backyard trying to let them get some sun...
most of the time they would escape tail-less thanks to us trying to recapture them... :(

i'm seriously considering getting a veiled chameleon and was curious if anyone else here had reptiles.... i've been doing a LOT of reading on the internet and purchased a few books, i'm planning on going to the Reptile Expo in May.....

i haven't had much luck finding any potential contacts locally so i thought i'd check here... :)

thanks,,, lisa

I have a veiled chameleon now that has grown from about a 3-4 inch squirt to a good 8-9 inches. He eats no less than 4-6 crickets everyday, sometimes 8-10. So many in fact that I order them online by the box of 500 and keep them in a Rubbermaid tub. Nice sounds in the den at night when they get to chirping.

If you do decide to go with a veiled than I would strongly suggest an open air screen enclosure as they love to climb. I purchased one that is about 40" tall and 20" x 20".
I put a pic of him in an album of the stuff I have for sale here if ya wanna have a peek:

I actually was a herp guy before I was a reef guy. "herp" by the way is a collective term used in the hobby for reptiles and amphibians. I've kept a number of different kinds throughout the years but right now I have a boa, a kingsnake, a fox snake, 3 poison arrow frogs and a blue tongue skink back at home (in iowa). My fiance also has a bearded dragon. Chameleons are awesome animals but I would reconsider if you're wanting a reptile that you would like to interact with (hold it, let it out). I know alot of people do it but there are better options like the bearded dragon, leopard gecko, etc.

ive had a few reptiles Lisa , 6' iguana , 4' savanna monitor , 4' nile monitor , 12' bermese python , 8' albino bermese python , 5' ball python and a 8' yellow anoconda also have kept chameleons , large spiders and scorp's, i also suggest a bearded dragon for starters and know a person local that breeds them the more high end colored dragons

very nice looking chameleon Dave, is it a male or a female? did you purchase it locally somewhere or order it online?

i really would like to hear about your whole setup, lighting, misting rig, dripper.... feeding also.... :) you can post it here or pm me,,, i'll send you my email address if it's easier to send pics that way... :)

got any more pics???

thanks a lot ,,,lisa

thanks swigen, Jim and Darlene, for the bearded dragon pitch, but...

one of the reasons that i chose a chameleon is the fact that they don't need or want the contact time that a bearded dragon would need... the fact that they like being left alone and are more of a "display" pet is what i'm looking for.... :)

thanks for the pics Darlene, she has some nice looking reptiles.. :)

Years ago I had a 8' Burmese, 10' Albino Burmese, 12' Burmese, Iguana, and my favorite of all a Blue Ambanja Panther Chameleon. I have considered getting another one lately but, have to hold off for now. I'm sending you a PM with some info.

If you want a display herp....I have to highly recommend dart frogs in a vivarium. Many species are very bold and active, all are beautiful, and there are dozens of species and localities that are very easy to take care of and are captive bred on a regular basis. In many ways a vivarium with orchids/bromeliads and dart frogs parallels a reef tank with live rock/coral and reef fish. If youre interested at all I can send you some excellent online resources.

Hey lisa,
well good choice on what you want, I do hope you will find one, it really does make sence about the hold time between the bearded and the chameleon ... but i don't think she has one lol .. if and when you do, hey pics pls hehehe ..

btw .. are you taking more pics of the underwater camera of yours? love to see more pic of those, I did see the one you told me and I will surely buy one in the future..
Good luck Darlene

Darlene, i've taken a few other pics with the camera.. i'll have to go back and see which i've posted and maybe add a few others... :)

as far as pics of the chameleon, they'll be plenty... they sit much stiller than the fish do,,, much easier to photograph!!!! :)
