Anyone in FV area have Interceptor?

Well, I have discovered I have red bugs. It appears that is why my smoother Acros have not been doing well while my "hairy" Acros are growing fine- they are apparently somewhat resistant.

Does anyone in the area have any Interceptor they can spare? If not, does anyone know a vet who carries it and is receptive to reefers? Our vet doesn't carry it. He uses Ivermectin instead for heartworm. I'd like to find a place I can get it right away. Thanks.

One of my vets will sometimes give me meds without seeing the animal depending on what it is. I dunno if they have interceptor though.
I never heard of ivermectin for heart worm in dogs? I know you can get that at fleet farm and it's used for horses. It can also be used for mites on guinea pigs and rabbits.
I know fleet farm carries some things but not others like vaccines for dogs and ivermectin. You could try them.
My vet gives me revolution (which is perscription only) for mites on the small animals and that would be Countryside on JJ so you could try them. I dunno if interceptor is over the counter or not.

I may have the name mixed up on the heartworm med that the vet uses. It always goes by its brand name anyway. The point is that my vet doesn't carry Interceptor since he uses a different heartworm medicine. Only Interceptor has been found to be effective and relatively safe.

It looks like it will be a few days until I can treat anyway. I'm still trying to catch the cleaner shrimp. I have 2 skunk and 2 fire shrimp. I really want to move them out of the tank before treating. I won't worry about the other crustaceans. I removed most of the hermits long ago.

Is a little bit of a drive, but if nobody knows of a vet offhand, and you don't find someone right in Appleton willing to prescribe, I found a vet listed at the Animal Medical and Dental center on Omro road in Oshkosh where one of the vets is listed as having a hobby maintaining her saltwater aquarium. http://www.animalemergencycenter.com/staff.html

Stacie Lipinski DVM

I'd imagine she would at least be more receptive to looking into it and considering it than many others.

Oh, Kass, the brand Heartgard is Ivermectin. We were also given it in mega doses for a dog with D. mange that didn't clear from dips alone.

Assuming a vet in the hobby would be more receptive, here's another and much closer :)

Thanks for the links. I may have to check out one of those "doggie er" places.

It's too bad this mediacation isn't for human use also. Then I'd just write the prescription myself.

AND, you'd be our best friend forever :) (If you share)

LOL. I was thinking the same thing earlier. You can write a prescription for a PERSON, but can't get Interceptor for a fish tank. Something just doesn't seem right there!

Oh, while I doubt you want to wait that long:

I have a new dog I still need to get in to the vet, so when I do I'll ask about going ahead and getting an Interceptor prescription even if not used until Spring (I'll LOSE it by then and need more). Unfortunately, I have a network security class in Green Bay all next week, so it wont be until at least the week after.

If you guys don't have any luck, I have an option I can try and call as well. Also, there were a couple folks in the TN club that had access to it, so I may be able to get a few pills shipped here if need be...

Al,

I bought a bunch of tablets of interceptor for the club. Don't know if I can mail it though... My sister who lives in Green Bay could pick it up and bring it to Green Bay around the 25th if you still need some by then. Otherwise if you are going to the WRS meeting this Sunday you could pick some up then also.

I think they cost $8 a tablet for the 100lb dog size.

Send a PM if you can't find it anywhere else.

I managed to get a pack from a local vet. I will need to keep enough so that I can treat any new corals or frags prophylactically in the QT. That would leave about 3 of the tabs that I could make available. I would remind anyone who chooses to treat to be sure to treat fully so as to avoid producing resistant strains of red bugs.
