Anyone in the club done a skimmer mesh mod?

My camera is broken, but we (roommate and myself) did it to his NW-150. As NASO says... it rocks. just messed with the venturi last night, and it is making some SUPER fine bubbles. all we did was took one impellor off, put 3 layers of PF4 on it, and then put the needlewheel back on and mini-ziptied all of it together. it was maxing itself out due to the venturi being too small. opening that up a bit with some larger tubing really seemed to help. just waiting for some of the oils to wear off to keep the foam head up, but it's definitely promising...

Steve: It's not really a step-by-step manual but this link Octopus Skimmer Mod thread has all you would need. All you need is some Enkamat PF4 (Aquatic Eco has is but in large quantities only,) some small zipties and a needlewheel pump. Though with enough modification, you could do it on any pump really...

mahoneyc3: We did it to a Reef Octopus NW-150. I will be doing it to my NW-200 as soon as I get my 120 set up... :)

You can get the Enkamat PF4 for free. Just google it and find a company that sells it. Then just request a sample. That's what I did and they sent me 12 different samples, each type measuring 4"x4".

I have not done the mod yet. I am currently using a CSS 125 and I don't want to cut up the impeller. I am going to try the fishing line mod first and see how it does.

If I can find a reasonably priced replacement impeller for my pump, then maybe I will give it a try.
