Anyone know what happened to Bargian Basement Pet Shop in Akron

Hi,

I have followed Bargain Basement for years as they have morphed into many different fish stores. They are due to rise again under a different name somewhere in the Akron area.
Stay tuned.........................

Dave

I guess that explains the good prices... I was hoping to hear of somebody selling LR for $3 or less a pound :) Wishful thinking I suppose...

ebay sells live rock for like 2.14/lb and they ship from FL. so it only takes 2 days to get.. Walt Smith rock or something like that, pretty good stuff from what i hear

Last year, I ordered LR from Premium Aquatics. I was very happy with my order, even shipped it was cheaper than what was available locally. I called them and told them exactly what I was looking for size-wise and type-wise and the customer service was excellent. linky

The yea last time I went up there it was closed and my daughter was heart broken as that was her favorite pet shop due to the new pond they set up with the sting rays ect. Then again she still talks about that Green Moray eel named Mr.Pickles. I still have a sebea anemone, clown fish and more that I got from there about 4.5yrs ago. as a matter of fact that is where I got my sump for $20.00. Lately I have been going to Wet Pets Plus or Coral Reefs Marine Fish only they have weird hours. Any other pet shops out there you like? Why?

dude wet pets plus has horrible livestock and prices, everything in there looks diseased! and their drygood prices are outrageous, i will never buy anything from them again, i had to pay $34 for a hawkfish that they had down the road at petco for $19, their LR is WAY overpriced, and half of the people in there have no idea what they are talking about (stan is the only one that does), plus when you see ask them to order something in for you they make it seem like its a waste of their time! NEVER go to wet pets plus, they cant even get coral in for you and their coral is crap, you would be much better off going to Tropical Aquarium, Aquarium Adventure, RMS Aquaculture, or taking a long drive to Salty Critter

There is a new pet shop in Brunswick (see other thread here) that your daughter would love, two ponds, huge, indoors, one for stingrays which the owner breeds at home. The other with a water fall for koi. A good selection of marines.

There is a small place in kent called Hutches Pet Shop. They are getting into the saltwater pretty good. They just started selling DT's oyster eggs and phytoplankton at a fair price. There AGA prices are the cheapest. I check them out every so often. Tropical marine is really good, RMS is ok, Aquarium Adventure is insanely priced, Aquatic technology is ok, Wet Pets Plus sucks, Pet Imporium sucks. I woud like to go to Salty Critter but its a long drive. One day I will. It is cheaper to order off line. I just ordered a 20 piece frag pack for 180 shipped. It will be here on thursday 11/29.

I am headed up there ASAP thanks for the tips from everyone, and yea Wet Pets Sucks however they are just 5 min from work and to tell you the truth I can not remember the last time I walked out of there with something:rolleyes:

Wet Pets is bad, their customer service is very poor, when i bought my clowns from there i was asking if they had any kinda stay alive guarentee for at least 24 hrs.. as i was saying that he just dumped my fish into the bag without any kinda of care and said no.. i was tempted to just walk out with out the fish ( which i overpaid for) but i got them anyways.. I don't care for Hutch in kent either, they are about 7min. away from my house.. the lady is often rude in there and last time i was in there most of their tanks in the lower half of the store was over run with algae! i drive out to Salty Critter for most of my stuff and i want to check out that new place in brunswick soon..

tropical aquarium is really a great place, he can also order anything for you and his stuff is priced so much better then wet pets, if you need salt or anything for a FO tank then i would check out petco as their salt prices on oceanic salt are the best and i love that salt, have nothing but good things to say about it! i might have to check out that place in kent since i need a decently priced 30G breeder tank for frags, anyone know where i can get a catalina goby locally?

Most Pet Supply Plus stores will special order so called non typical sized aquariums for you at a small % over their wholesale price in an attempt to get add on sales at least the one I got most of my aquariums from did, again that was also when I lived in PA.
I Picked up a 125 with a black stand and glass canopies for $415.00 out the door. its worth a phone call to see at the least.

I think hutches in kent has a 30g breeder aga tank for $40. Tropical Aquarium has the Catalina Goby, I just bought 1 saturday....

I just received a post card from a place called Captain Larry's Aquarium. It looks exactly like the ones I used to receive from Wet Pets. My guess is that there is new ownership and it moved to a new location:

Captain Larry's Aquarium
2079 East Market Street - suite 7
330-733-5955

If anyone in the Akron area goes out there please post and let us know what the store is like.

Hi, I've been reading these posts for some time and usually never post anything BUT, I have to for this one. I have got to say that Wet Pets is the ABSOLUTE WORST!

They don't have a clue about customer service. It's just one of those places that I check for my wallet when I walk out the door. And, for the love of g_d, buy a fricken computer and find out how the hobby has evolved over the last 20 years!

WET PETS PLUS = REALLY BAD RIPPED OFF FEELING
