Anyone know what to do about hydroids?

Just found out that someone's tank succombed to these suckers. I just noticed these tiny (each had about 2mm across) ones in my tank a couple of weeks ago.

Here's a pic just in case you're wondering of what I speak:

Any help appreciated!

That's exactly what I was thinking. Right now all I see are this bunch down in a hole...very easy to jam a wad of kalk paste down in there! Figured it works for aptasia and majanos...might work for these too!

I'd try kalk paste, but start killing now before they take over! I just killed a bunch of aptasia in a friends tank today with kalk paste in a hypodermic syringe. Makes the suckers shrivle and melt away

not quiet sure if those are hydroids .... but if they are - get rid of 'em ASAP. They LOVE flow .... if you have any flow, or currnt directed at them - take it off at once!

If i ever see them, i use a bit of epoxy to coer them up ... its a sure resolution for small patches, or crevices.

HOWEVER! do NOT try to pull them off the rock - you'll most likely loose some of the polyps while doing so, and they will float somewhere else - possibly less accessible & spread like a wildfire in florida during the summer months ..... and we all know how those do!

I just made a thick paste with Kalk. Took a nice little pea sized wad of it and jammed it in the hole. Took care of some majanos the same way with a couple more "wads." It's still there now...two nights later. Don't know if it naturally will wear away with water flow or what now.

i'd try it a second time, you know someone brought a rock infested with those to a meeting a while back asking what they were and how to rid his tank of them. Thats the first time i saw em. Maybe he will see this and chime in..... but i think he said they actually were stinging him! have they stung you?

I am no where near an expert here but I am not convinced that they are hydroids either. I did a quick Google search and the info provided by the Seaslug forum showed pictures that look nothing like what you have shown above.
http://www.seaslugforum.net/factsheet.cfm?base=hydroids Could be I am not seeing what everyone else is or that there are many other hydroids that are not covered in the link provided.
My 0.02:)

hydroids come in all shapes and sizes from matting clusters to fern like growth to free swimming forms (the man-o-war jellyfish is actually a colonial hydroid).

I agree those don't look like any form of hydroids I have seen. we talk about hydroids all the time in the seahorse forum. Do not boil if they are hydroids you may end up with severe respritory problems.

Those are not the same as the hydroids I had, but there are many different kinds. When I tried the kalk paste I found that they came back strong after about 2 weeks. If they are in a small area use the epoxy and cover them, That works! KILL THEM ASAP!

I discovered these today growing out of a really nice piece of live rock I bought recently.

It's hard to tell from the resolution but they are dark green and ferny in appearance. My question is... will it kill my Xenia? At least some of it?

I'm a bit reluctant to take action since the rock has some SPS (left, came with the rock) and a BTA (right, at the moment in a somewhat flacid state) on it (below)

Since my tank is currently overrun with Xenia, what's the worst that could happen here?
