anyone know where I can rent or borrow suction grips in the area?

My display tank is due in early next month. The tank is 800 lbs and the stand is about 300 lbs.

The tank is being delivered to ABF in Kirwood and I need to get it to the house and inside onto the stand.

If I can find somewhere to to rent/borrow 6-8 suction grips for glass, I can then hopefully find some big guys to help pick it up and move it inside (I'm assuming I can find a way to get the crate from ABF to the house)

(Roger Moving can do the whole thing - pick it up at ABF and setup up at the house, but it sounds like that would cost me around $1,200 -- which seems a bit steep to me :headwallblue: )

With the kind of weight your talking about it might be worth the investement. Trying to carry that kind of weight down stairs would scare me. Without stairs in the equation id say it shouldnt be too challenging have you tried asking (thatfishplace) in PA i believe they use to have Suction grips. But with all that being said that price does sound pretty high maybe others here can help chime in on moving companies they have used in the past.

There are no stairs involved, but you may be right about "don't try this at home"... I will check around to see if other companies are available at a lower rate.

Pay the money, best headache you will ever avoid..... :)

But 8 guys should be able to pick it up no problem without suction cups.

Just keep a few 6x6 underneath so it's never on the ground.....

I just moved an old oceanic 210 gallon with the heavy duty dual suction cups from Harbor Freight. Never once did any of the 4 slide, and it made moving the tank a breeze. At $6.99 a piece, money well spent and I just kept them afterwards

thanks guys... the problem is that the ones designed for this kind of weight are $65 a piece and to manuver 800 lbs it will take minimum 6, possibly 8 guys.

I been told that the lighter duty ones can't handle it -- but I have no experience to know. Its 3/4" glass around with Starfire front.

Most of the advice I'm getting is "pay the money, use pros, buy a six pack and watch"...

Not sure if you have them there but Sunbelt rental should have them that is where I got mine. I cant remember how much they are per day but they hare the heavy duty ones. Good luck.

Taylor rental (at least the one in Binghamton) has the heavy duty ones. A coworker's friend rented 6 sets from them to move his 8 ft long tank.
