Anyone know where to buy pickling lime locally?

Looking for pickling lime, but can't find anything larger than the small packets.....has anyone found any locally?

Thanks!

I've seen the "jars" at Star market also. Do you guys have as much growth with this as you do with Kalkwasser? I've heard that you can use pickling lime and get the same results but have not had the courage to try.

Pickling lime is the exact same thing as Kalkwasser...just a different, cheaper package.

I purchase 1lb jar from a mom and pop grocery store for about $2.70/jar. Lots cheaper than the $10 lb Kalkwasser.

I've checked Wallyworld, Winn Dixie, a few big local produce sellers, to no avail....all I can find is the small packets. I've got a few feed stores to try, but no luck yet........thanks for the help!

Where in Alabama are you?

NARC did a group buy some time ago from Brentagg near Huntsville International Airport. Mississippi Lime Company's food grade lime (CaOH - same thing as Mrs. Wages) is only 10 dollars or so for 50 lbs.

Thx, Tomoko. I'm in Irvington, which is right below Theodore, which is right below Mobile. I'm inbetween Theodore and Grand Bay, which is right on the Mississippi - Alabama line.

Boy, you are far away.

I hear that a Mexican restaurant that makes their own tortilla use lime water made from Mississippi Lime Company's lime. If you know of one, you can ask them for the source.

Pickling lime is kinda seasonal. Many stores stop carrying them at the end of the summer.

I recall some people order Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime on-line.

It's a small world...my brother lives in Grand Bay. It's bad when you're considered a suburb of Pascagoula!

Llama72, dripping kalk, which is essentially lime water, is one of many ways to add calcium to your tank to improve coral growth.

Every walmart has it but its not where you'd think.

Its in the house wares isle by the mason jars dont ask for the lime the employees have no idea, go to an employee and ask for mason jars. I'm canning jelly and need some. The lime will be 1 shelf up and to the right.

You're exactly right, but the stores around me only have it in very small packets, not the jars like I need. Thanks though!
