Anyone local dosing vodka? i hear that 2 ml a day keeps the reef tank pains away... is this true? it has something to do with bubbles or some thing??

NO this is not just an excuse to get more vodka in the house. i am acctually trying to understand if this really benifits the tank or not.

thanks

I started with 2 mi a day now im up to a quart a day. The tank does look better after the quart i see two of everythng .

When you have excess nitrogen and phopshate in you tank, by adding a clean carbon source like Vodka, the bacteria growth is stimulated and uses up the nitrogen and phosphate. The bacteria in the water column is skimmed out by using a good skimmer, and the nitrogen and phopshate is removed. Does it work.yes......

but also use a lot of oxygen

Where your high turn over rate through the sump comes in and $13,000 worth of power heads and wave makers.

Good post trot, I had heard of such just never took the time to research it. I have a bottle, I don't care for the stuff so I try it in my tank.

Boy the bum down the street would kill if he knew what I was about to do.

that is a mark weiss trick

That is really weird?? I was looking at at the ingredients in my combo vital a while ago and it has stevia listed. Stevia(herb) is a sugar substitute about 1/2 tsp = 1/2 cup sugar. I emailed them months ago and never heard back about the reason for this-my guess is the polyps taste and the sweet makes them eat??? I have been using stevia for a couple of years in sweeting things. I do not know how beneficial this is because it is very low in glucose, it just taste sweet.
I have never tried the vodka thing, but wouldn't any grain booze have the same effect? Trott why dont you give it a try and experiment?

i am currently doing reasearch about the most effective fuge, this vodka deal, and the sugar thing that i never knew about.

ill let you know

That is a good idea trottie. That way if you get busted for illegal transportation you can tell the cops its for my reef tank.
